3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap. Pours a medium amber-red with an off-white head and lacing. It has a piney hop aroma with a malt background, and the same profile in the flavor that leads to a bitter, hoppy finish.

2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Light reddish orange in color.. Aroma of light malts, vanilla... Flavor is thin, notes of caramel, vanilla, off astringent finish... Not much body for a bourbon aged beer... Disappointing

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Just called Imperial Red at the Chandler location a few months back. It pours with a nearly clear deep copper body with thin gold edges and supporting a thin off white head that leaves some spotty sheet lacing behind. The aroma is malty and a little nutty and also some pine like hoppiness. The taste has up front bitterness and is a mix of pine hop bitterness and roasted malt astringency with a dash of citrus hoppiness. Into the finish, in addition to the other notes, I pick up some floral hops. Decent enough.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
A 10oz "cervouise" on tap at BJís in Cincinnati. The bartender said she thought this was 8.2%, but I have no other evidence of that. Nice spicy hop flavor, lightly earthy, light tropical fruit... Maybe the most pleasant first sip Iíve had from a BJís brew yet. Little caramel malt, some tastiness. Bigger body. Smooth, lighter, kind of crisp carbonation. Lightly dry in the finish. Hint of chocolate. Nice bigger bitter taste, lightly spicy, minimal sweet. Light hint of the alcohol in the finish. I donít mind it at all. Mostly clear orange amber color. Thin off-white head with good retention. Nice splotches of lace. Very satisfying imperial red ale. Much better than expected. Definitely the best BJís Iíve had so far.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pretty good. This is my first in their reserve series and you can tell they put some real effort into it. Nice hoppy aroma, more floral than anything else. The color was a reddish copper with a very small head. The palate was average weight with above-average carbonation. The flavors were well-balanced with a good malt backbone that had some caramelized sweetness. This was followed by a hop presence; in fact, it couldíve easily been an imperial IPA. Worth a second go around.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
The beer is a rich, clear, red color that is topped by a frothy, tan colored head. The aroma smells of hoppy grapefruit, slight herbal notes, some pine, and, as it warms some berry-like notes, and a hint of alcohol. The malt character here plays second fiddle to the hops (something I wasnít expecting, but still contributes aroma of toast, caramelized nuts, and whole grain cracker notes.
The taste is quite hoppy as well with flavors of grapefruit, and lychee up front. Alcohol, subdued malt, and a supporting caramel maltiness as well as a toasted, nutty maltiness also plays a role here. In the end this is a bit too alcoholic leaning to be great, but it is still quite tasty and definitely good.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
A clear golden-like lager color. Good thick head. Thick malty aroma. Strong bitter flavor underbalanced by the malt. Floral, bitter flavor and finish. Pretty damn good actually, for a starter only.
