Draft @ BJís. Nice hoppy aroma, with a bit of malt. Dark reddish color. Good balance of malty and hoppy flavor. Full bodied. Definitely noticeable hop flavor, but very good!

Sample at BJís Polaris on 6/27/14. Clear red pour with a thick beige head. Aroma of malt, caramel and earthy hops. Malty and caramelly flavor with piney and earthy hops through to the finish. Nice.

This one poured a light brown with an off white head. Aroma was of hops caramel and booze. Flavor similar, big American style but drinkable.

Draft At BJs brew house Pours dark red with rich malt caramel flavor. About 30 seconds after swallowing a mild but sharp citrus pine hoppy flavor fills the sides of your mouth. ---Rated via Beer Buddy

Not bad for a BJíS brew very little lacing and low bitterness. The malt flavors over power the hops in this one. Not would drink again.

UPDATED: MAY 27, 2014 Draft at their Frederick, MD location, served in a footed pilsner glass. Clear orangy-amber color with off-white head. Aroma of heavy pine/citrus hops with toffee malt backing. Taste added notes of toast, faint dried fruits (raisins, figs), some nuttiness and citrus hop bitterness. Medium-heavy body, low-moderate carbonation, sticky with sweet bitter finish. A hoppy leaning BW (they say imperial Amber Ale), not bad.

Tap at the Frederick, MD location. Pours clear amber with a medium, creamy off-white head, medium retention with light lacing. Aroma is toast and cookie malt, dates and figs, earthy and floral hops. Flavor is sweet malt, fruity esters, pine and resin hops with a dry finish. Full body and carbonation.

On tap at BJís. Clear red orange color. Good thin finger of off-white head, that retains well. Leaves good, thicker lace. Medium to bigger body. Super-smooth, lighter carbonation. Good, full mouthfeel. Lightly slick finish. Nice bigger hop to this... Good earthy hop, some tropical red fruit, light spiciness. Some caramel malt, light spicy malt, hint of rye. Kind of a sticky sweetness in the finish with the malt. Moderate to bigger bitter taste, moderate sweet taste. 9% alcohol isnít too bothersome. No burn or bite, just a little bit of extra sweetness thatís balanced by the bigger hop bitterness. Tasty, solid, satisfying hoppier barleywine.

A 10oz "cervouise" on tap at BJís in Cincinnati. The bartender said she thought this was 8.2%, but I have no other evidence of that. Nice spicy hop flavor, lightly earthy, light tropical fruit... Maybe the most pleasant first sip Iíve had from a BJís brew yet. Little caramel malt, some tastiness. Bigger body. Smooth, lighter, kind of crisp carbonation. Lightly dry in the finish. Hint of chocolate. Nice bigger bitter taste, lightly spicy, minimal sweet. Light hint of the alcohol in the finish. I donít mind it at all. Mostly clear orange amber color. Thin off-white head with good retention. Nice splotches of lace. Very satisfying imperial red ale. Much better than expected. Definitely the best BJís Iíve had so far.

On draft at BJís in Columbus, OH. Pours a red-amber with an off-white head. Nose is big pine with hints of grapefruit and sap with mildly herbal notes. Flavor is some malt, some grapefruit, and almost none of the pine promised in the nose. Medium in body for the style and lingering herbal and citrus hops on the finish.
