3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Crash (507) - Macomb, Illinois, USA - FEB 1, 2005
Another GABF selection by name only. Really hadn’t had too many barley wines up until that weekend but, after finding a good, I started looking everywhere. This one was not the best but, it was really good. It had a sweet smell that reminded me of baked goods. A nice sweet alcohol taste with a small kick.
3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 Ernest (5183) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - DEC 6, 2004
GABF 2004. Body is light amber. Aroma is lightly malty (cookie), lightly hoppy (resin), lightly yeasty (dough, sweat). Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium to full body, velvety texture, lively carbonation. Kinda boring, overall.

Light red color with aromas of malt and alcohol. Grape taste from being aged in wine barrels (I hope they forget this idea). A good barleywine though.

Nothing like a brew aged within the oak. Looks alot like dirty hydrolic grease. Has some twisted sweetness in the malts. Has a real ability to remind me of those candy soaked apples you find at the salad bar.
