16 ounce sample on tap at the Sacramento Natomas location. The bartender told me that this beer used to be called Tempest IPA, but they were forced to change the name. The aroma is super fruity with lots of citrus orange and a little pineapple and mango. Light floral hints present, too. Smells good. Mildly hazy orange-copper body with a medium whitish head and scant lacing. Starts with fruity, orange and citrus hop flavors. Has a bit of a weird maltiness. Did they use rye malt in this? This has some peppery and spicy hints of malts before this finishes herbal with some spicy hop bitterness. Thereís a bit of an underlying sweetness present throughout.

Draft. Light pine aroma. Light pine and woodsy flavor with malt and very light citrus. Medium bodied. Some bitterness. Pine and woodsiness lingers with malt.

UPDATED: MAR 3, 2011 This beer was too bitter and the balance was awful. I was hoping for something a little more tolerable. I enjoy some of BJís house beers however this one did not stand out.

On draught at Bjs Rancho. Poured a dark hazy golden color with tiny white head. Aroma was very piney. Taste was somewhat bitter with nice malt balance. I was very surprised by this one for a BJs brew.

Poured a very clear golden color, thin bubbly off-white head. Aroma was floral with some sweet pineapple and caramel. Taste was nice balance between malt and hops with a nice sweetness and mild bitterness. Medium sticky pallet. Overall way better than I expected from BJís. Pretty decent IPA.

Had last night at BJs in Vegas... Felt like the beer was too dry and piney for my liking... Very unremarkable....

A: The pour is a hazy amber/copper color, a bit too dark for my liking when it comes to an IPA. A finger or so worth of khaki colored head. S: The nose starts off nicely with some tropical fruits like pineapple and mango. Thatís about where the pleasantries end. After that I get some bubblegum, very sweet caramel malt, and toffee. T: Intensely sweet to begin, and things donít change too much. Thereís a weird spice flavor like cinnamon and nutmeg. Lots of sweet, caramel malt and toffee. Thereís a bit of bitterness, but not a very pleasant one. M: The body is medium to full with the carbonation a bit on the low side for an IPA. D: This was pretty awful, especially for something that should be easy to do, like an IPA. No real hop character to speak of...

On tap in Boulder. Copper color with a white head. Nose of citrus and a touch of pale malts. Light bitterness from piney hops. Decent enough to qualify as an IPA.

Clear golden with a medium off white head. Hoppy nose with notes of grapefruits and lemon. Flavour was dry and hoppy with notes of grapefruit, pine and toasted malt. Finished dry and bitter. Not bad. Fine drinkability. More like a pale ale than an IPA though.
