4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 hophound (23) - Surprise, Arizona, USA - APR 13, 2003Amber color. Aroma dominated by a citrus aroma.Well balenced. Malt flavor followed by a huge hop presence and a warming alcohol finish. Overall a very enjoyable beer. Highly recomended.
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 rmussman (1511) - California, USA - OCT 31, 2010
Sampled at the BJs in San Mateo. A nice IPA but i would not call it double, but perhaps by their standard. Its not bad, a good drinking brew, but not a big double IPA.
2.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 JediMindTricks (422) - Remington, Virginia, USA - APR 26, 2009

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 undsioux7 (764) - Eden Prairie, Minnesota, USA - FEB 19, 2007
bjs in boulder. I am assuming that this is the harpoon ipa, so my review is for that one here. I really enjoyed this one. If you go to a bjs, hope that this is one of the special beers they have on tap at the time.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 trokini (1025) - San Diego, California, USA - JUL 5, 2005
UPDATED: AUG 24, 2005 I always order this (if available) or the Tatonka stout when I go. Rather smooth for an Imperial IPA. Hops are obvious, but are mellowed with some citrus flavors. A very good IPA, but it really can’t be compared to the Ruination or YuleSmith offerings. I would still definitely drink this again.
3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 AleDrinker (1090) - Sunnyvale, California, USA - SEP 25, 2004
UPDATED: SEP 26, 2004 Pours dark amber color with thick white head. This was a decent IIPA. Nice strong citrus hoppy aroma. Flavor is plenty bitter, lots of citrus, and plenty of malt and alcohol to back the hops. I always enjoy an IIPA
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 leitrim65 (402) - Seattle, Washington, USA - MAY 30, 2004
UPDATED: MAY 31, 2004 On tap at the BJ’s Portland, OR location. Pours a deep golden color. The aroma is lacking but the little I managed to pick up is hops, with some citrus undertones. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by this beer. Yes, there is a heavy presence of hops throughout this beer. However, the hops aren’t overpowering. This is a well balanced hoppy beer. The finish leaves a tingling of hops long after the last sip.
4.4 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 bigbeersrule (82) - USA - JAN 30, 2004
This beer is one of the new fangled over the top IPA's. I love big beers but this beer is not balanced unless you want to be a total hop freak. The regular IPA is more balanced and drinkable but if you want to have hops growing out of different parts of your body after you drink it than you need to try it.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Eyedrinkale (3214) - Astoria, New York, USA - DEC 24, 2003
Chandler, AZ. Nice amber color with citrus nose. Hops are all over the place in this one. Best IPA that I have had at any BJ's.
4.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 Gusler (2654) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - MAR 30, 2003
“WOW”, what an unexpected treat to find an “Imperial IPA”, that I’ve heard nothing but good reviews on and the same about the brewpub itself, and I must say they have told the truth. I definitely need to hit the brewpub, as this is a review from the “Arizona Beerfest”.
The beer pours a burnished copper color on the pour with a big frothy beige head and the resultant lace a fine sheet to conceal the glass. Bunyanesque hop nose, crisp, slightly sweet, start is nicely malt, sweet, and the top middling in feel. Finish is all “Hops”, moderately acidic, bitter dry aftertaste, and one “Great I2PA”, and a must try for all the “Hop Heads” in the audience.
