This robust dark ale is surprisingly smooth and drinkable. Caramel, molasses and chocolate flavors fill the palate. Its sweet start is perfectly balanced by a roasted dry finish.

Pours dark brown/black with a thick head that retains. Aroma of chocolate and coffee taste follows, this is very light for a porter, more like an Irish dry stout. Not a bad beer just not right for the style ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A decent porter which takes a hit in their lineup sitting next to their stout and other heavy beers. Some roastedness sets this beer apart.

6/16/12. On tap. Light brown pour with a nice head. Odd aroma of butterscotch and wood. Taste of caramel butterscotch and ash. Bleh.

Pours a dark opaque brown with a nice lasting tan head and abundant lacing. The nose is not very strong - malty. The taste is roasted malt and a bit of vanilla. The mouthfeel is medium-full with a balance of carbonation. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This is one rich, smooth, hearty porter. Iíd say it stands up favorably beside any other beer Iíve had. There are tones of chocolate, coffee, lots of malt, and just a little hoppy kick at the end. I donít understand why this beer isnít highly rated, I think itís really very good. Have it with BJís Black and Bleu Burger for a damn fine meal.

On tap at the Huntington Beach location. It pours dark brown with a cream colored head. The aroma has light notes of coffee and cream with hints of cocoa. The flavor is noticeably buttery with toffee and hints of cocoa/coffee but really light on flavor. Not a great one.

UPDATED: MAY 27, 2012 Its a porter from BJís. There is not much more to say than that a little weak but try to say you have tried it

Much lighter than a porter should be. Tastes and feels much more like a nut brown. Not what I was expecting.

(Growler pour) Slightly sweet, roasted aroma. Pours a clear brown, with ruby highlights when held up to the light, and no head at all. This beer has no carbonation in it after the growler fill. It seems that they did a top fill, and allowed all of the carbonation to escape. Thin bodied, with a touch of roasted notes with minimal finish. This isnít bad on tap, just donít expect a growler fill of it to hold up for even 12 hours.

Another watery mess from Bjís. Decent appearance, really tight, fine head. I think it was nitro. Body was flat. Flavorless.
