This robust dark ale is surprisingly smooth and drinkable. Caramel, molasses and chocolate flavors fill the palate. Its sweet start is perfectly balanced by a roasted dry finish.

On Nitro. Deep brown color with reddish hues at the bottom of the glass. Foamy tan head. Toasted malt aroma but not much else- this beer was served too cold for my liking and in a frozen glass. Caramel and chocolate malt flavors along with some roasted malts. Pretty nice but Iím not crazy about itís serving temp or the fact that they served it on nitro.

Draught. Nice and well balanced porter with an attractive treacle aroma. I went for a BJs flight and this was the pick of the bunch.

On nitro. Pours up a dark brown, nearly black, with moderate tan head. Slight smoky, roasted aroma. Taste is nutty with a slight smoke and coffee presence. Smooth and creamy from the nitro, but still thin and watery with not enough body. Much lighter palate than expected.

Sampled on nitro draft at the Frederick MD location this beer poured a black color with a huge creamy beige head that lingered forever and left incredible lacing. The aroma was toasty and a bit smoky with vanilla and coffee notes. The flavor was smooth, toasty, and woody with vanilla cream and light fruity hops. Medium length finish. Moderately full bodied and very creamy. Solid.

On nitro tap at BJís in Fort Collins. Brown/black appearance with a lingering tan head. The aroma is smoky, burnt plastic, earth and light molasses. Similar flavor, light roasted and vegetal with a meaty, light smoky finish. Way off, I could barely stomach it. Yuck.

Draught at BJ:s Restaurant and Brewhouse, Brea. Black beer with a nice lasting beige head. Roasted chocolate aroma, coffee, licorice, cocoa powder, some toffee and burnt malts. Roasted coffee flavor, vinous, fruity, cocoa powder. Slightly thin but still a good porter.

Nitro draft at their Frederick, MD restaurant, opaque dark brown color with light tan head. Aroma notes of roasted malt sweetness, chocolate and faint nuttiness. Taste adds more chocolate syrup, faint coffee and dark fruit. Medium-light body, low carbonation (nitro), creamy with sweet roasty finish. Pretty nice nitro porter, maybe a tad thin.

21st May 2015: BJís Laguna Hills outlet. Part of an eight glass flight. Thought this was the best of the eight beers I tried on the day. Ruby hue to the dark body, on top a lightly tanned foam blanket. Malts all the way here, fairly sweet initially it bottoms out a little drier and roasted latter in the mouth. Hides the alcohol well with itís depth of flavours. My sweet tooth took to this.
