xavier909 (2), Lakewood, Colorado, USA does not count Jul 31, 2003 Recently visited BJs in Boulder, CO and I was really not expecting to find the Best Beer Ever there.. but what do you know! Has an extremely complex flavour, very full-bodied and surprisinly smooth, despite it's strength. Just wish it was available in England. TheBeerLover (1013), DC Metro Area, USA Jan 28, 2006 Tatonka Stout pours to an opaque jet black color with a thick and creamy tan head, and a moderate amount of carbonation. The nose on this beer is just jam packed with big aromas of peppery alcohol, dark chocolate, dark roasted coffee, fragrant aromas of citrus and pine tar, with hints of black currant. The palate is rich and full on the tongue with an motor oil like mouth feel. Very complex, rich, and delicious flavors of sweet and dark malt, dark chocolate, roast, licorice, and coffee fill the mouth and slowly sides down. Tatonka finishes with more big, robust, dark malt, coffee, chocolate, and licorice flavor, then ends with a very warming, high octane, peppery alcoholic burn that lingers and lets you know you just had a pretty amazing beer.
Tatonka Stout is an outstanding example of Imperial Stout in my opinion. It is rich, robust, and flavorful, packed with character, and has that peppery alcohol character that I really enjoy in an Impy. Again, you don’t have to wait for this one, it is available year round at any one of BJ’s locations. This beer is very strong, so it is not the type you will want to drink a lot of. It makes for a perfect desert beer, or after dinner beer, and I enjoyed this beer as a desert after a great lunch on a beautiful, sunny afternoon is Southern California. If you are lucky enough to have a BJ’s in your area, this beer, as are all their beers, are well worth trying. Dragon99 (57), Laramie, Wyoming, USA Nov 5, 2001 Thick, heavy brew. Very strong. This beer is a good example of an Imperial Stout. Has a weird aftertaste that I can’t pinpoint. BigBastard (669), L.A., California, USA Feb 12, 2004 The best of the BJ's lineup in my opinion. Excellent coffee/hop aroma. Pours a rich black, with a whip creamy tan head. Tastes of chocolate, coffee, caramel, leather, and smoke abound. Finishes with a slightly bitter hop bite. turbo (1248), Arizona, USA Sep 6, 2005 Draught. Black with an awesome head and lacing that hangs in one big sheet on the glass!
Rich roasty chocolate aroma.
Flavor is sweet, roasty, chocolate, coffee.
Big heavy body, very good stout!
