Cask conditioned: Hazy chocolate brown. Fine bubbles slowly rise to form a soapy cap. Caramel, vanilla beans and bittersweet chocolate comprise the boring and unpolished nose. Bubbly and soft on the palate. Flavors are initially plasticy, medicinal and vanilla laced with a trailing molasses astringency. Soon becomes one dimensional as extremely sloppy and poorly utilized vanilla dominate the already obscure maltiness. Bittersweet chocolate and hints of shoe polish give way to a vegetal and plasticy finish which is compounded by the perpetual astringency. This tastes like unfermented malt juice, and hardly resembles beer. If they want the best from their cask offerings (not that it would have helped any with this), they’ll ever stop using sparklers because the already dead condition of this stood absolutely no chance of surviving such abuse. A few swallows of this was more than enough for me.
