Bottle. Sweet liquorice aroma. Almost black colour. Very small head. Quite sweet flavour, a lot of liquorice here too. Low bitterness. Maybe a bit too sweet, but quite nice.

0.5L bottle. Poured a deep brown with garnet highlights. Tall, loose initial head receded to a thin film with patchy lacing. Nose was intriguing with dark chocolate, burnt molasses, licorice, and mild alcohol as it warmed. Flavor was of cocoa upfront, followed closely by a plethora of burnt, sticky dark malts (licorice, soy, and molasses come to mind)... there was an increasing alcohol presence as this warmed, progressing from warmth to texture to a major component of the flavor. Palate was light, considering the heavy flavor elements.. with only decent transition of flavors. Finish was warm and of moderate length, with burnt dark malts representing. Solid porter with some noticable rough spots.

Bottle from Riley’s in Madison. If I didn’t know I had beer under my nose I wooda’ thunk that I had just been offered a nice chocolate filled with coffee cream. Nose is very nice. It is black as hell with a little bit of creamy tan foam. Shit,too bad this did not taste like it smells. very muddled and non-descript.

Mild aroma, no alcohol smell. Mildly bitter taste with maybe a hint of dark chocolate. Didn’t detect as much flavor as some of the other reviewers maybe because it was chilled a little low. Okay porter.

Bottle at RBESG Grand Tasting, August 2005. Nearly black, with a ruby tinge. Strong Baltic Porter character, with licorice and tar, some tart fruit and very noticeable volatile alcohol in the aroma. But is shockingly sweet and, coupled with the alcohol burn, this makes for a very odd mouthfeel indeed. Like surgical spirit mixed with cassis and treacle - more like a medicinal tincture than a beer. Rather crude. Not really my thing.

translucent blackish chestnut color, goldish brown edges. loose creamy light tan head. smoky molasses and sweet good-n-plenty like malt aroma. flavor is sweet licorice like Panda candies, some dark molasses, and roasted caramel malt towards the end. bitterish licorice finish. alcohol hidden by sweetness. light mouthfeel and high carbonation. clingy thin layer of lacing. not too complex, but a nice session porter.

Bottle- strong sweet nose. Strong sweet malty flavor. Develops increased character as temperature increases. It’s over the top sweetness...yeah...pretty much... Food pairing:Outstanding with bar-b-que. )

Really sweet porter, not particularly refined. Not much roasty or chocolately flavors, though I do taste a bit of wheatiness that I didnt expect. Tastes pretty alcoholic, even for a 9.5%. A little too thin of a body, but still an enjoyable beer. Not a great porter, but it does the job.
