   AROMA 6/10   APPEARANCE 3/5   TASTE 6/10   PALATE 3/5   OVERALL 12/20
BuckNaked (1230) - Tempe, Arizona, USA - MAY 29, 2005
Bottle provided by and shared with clarkvv 4/30/2005: Dark brown body with a small beige head that quickly recedes to a tiny ring around the outside of the glass. Aroma: mostly dominated by dark molasses, brown sugar, maple syrup, acidic toffee. Taste: sweet, syrupy malt up front, followed by brown sugar, molasses, toffee, chalky caramel. Finish shows a bit of coffee and continues to be sweet. Medium forced carbonation, creamy mouth feel. Completely hides any trace of alcohol, which is impressive. This one does seem quite sweet, possibly under-attenuated, so Iím wondering what yeast, or method they used to get this particular sweetness.

Didnít care for this at all. Odd flavor, strange finish. Iím chalking up to just not getting the Baltic porter style.

turbo (1271) - Arizona, USA - MAY 11, 2005
Bottle poured black with a medium sized off white head. Brown sugar and molasses aroma with a good medium body, sweet malty flavor is almost a bit to sweet for me. Became more roasty as it warmed..still to sweet.

ClarkVV (3891) - Allston, Massachusetts, USA - MAY 5, 2005
2004 bottle shared with bucknaked on 4/30/2005. MIBRomeo is right on, the dark brown body has a shiny copper/penny-colored hue to it. Beige head is quickly receding to ring. Smells of sticky molasses, brown sugar, toffee, very straightforward baltic porter aroma. Would appreciate some lager yeast qualities, but as this is quite filtered and most assuredly pasteurised, Iím not surprised at the cleanliness. Flavor is quite sweet, more molasses, brown sugar and caramel/toffee. Cane sugary finish, maybe a touch of dry anise. Bits of cappucino stick out here and there. Boring, unsubstantial mouthfeel shows the high filtration and forced carbonation. Very sweet, medium body. Hides the alcohol VERY well, I will say that.

MIBRomeo (2537) - Wisconsin, USA - MAY 5, 2005
dark brown copper hugh w/ a laced off white head. Light hop in the aroma under a big maple syruppy carmel roasted malt smell. The palate was solid fairly creamy while being a little light. The flavor was a big sweet malty syruppy flavor that warmed you as it went down w/ out tasting of alcohol. There was almost a fruity component to it in the finish and a bit of roasiness. Overall a surprisingly good beer out of nowhere.. nice little hidden gem from my local liquor store.

Dark brown body with a quickly dissapating head. Maple syrup / caramel aroma; quite sweet. Sweet flavor, maple syrup, burnt caramel malt, some black patent malt for bitterness. Rich mouthfeel, a touch of alcohol in the finish. I really enjoyed the full sweetness in this guy, itís a rare trait in beers. I do think this batch didnít attenuate all the way, but itís good regardless. Thanks Chuck!

Ok... I know what youíre saying. "A quality beer for $1.80?" Well, youíve hit it on the head. This suckerís a hidden gem at a cheap price. Thanks MIBRomeo! Appearance is dark brown color. Thin white head that is virtually non-existent. Decent lacing. The aroma is maple syrup, caramel malts, flowery hops, dark fruits. Very strong aroma. Flavor: Finish is very maple syrupy. General flavor is caramel malts and maple syrup. Some flowery hops hiding under the immense sweetness. Flavor is really in your face. Palate is very sweet and balanced. Surprising. Good full mouth feel. Hides the alcohol really well.

DrunkenWeasel (224) - Portland, Oregon, USA - APR 24, 2005
Pours deep brown with a small white head. Smells strongly of roasted malts and licorice. Very strong taste of licorice in beer that covers up almost everything else, bitter aftertaste comes in afterwards.

Papsoe (25090) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - APR 23, 2005
UPDATED: JUN 13, 2005 (Bottle 50 cl) Very dark, almost black with a light brown head from the dark malts. Very sweet (sweetened?) almost vinous in the direction of portwine. Somehow reminds me of dark Trappists (yes, really...) just not quite as complex in the flavour pattern. Not much bitterness. For a beer this strong it goes down scaringly easy, you donít really sense the alcohol. A pleasant surprise. 110704
