Bottle at home ... that to Pat for this ... Deep deep brown little red tinge ... good soft roast no bitter malt nose ... over fizzy .... good chocolate ... lots of roast malts ... A decent Porter all in all this is a solid pint.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Oakes (10941) - Savusavu, FIJI ISLANDS - JAN 1, 2004
Dark burgundy brown. Rich malt aroma w/ almond cake, light molasses, raisin, plum, dark chocolate, peach. Sweet, silky malt flavours, vietnamese coffee, fruity (apricot, orange) notes. Quite sweet and sugary. Needs a bit more hop for balance, and maybe to be more thoroughly fermented, but a good example of the style nonetheless.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 harrisoni (10911) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - AUG 7, 2006
Bottle at GBBF 2006. I hadn’t realised the strength of this. Very deep ruby colour with some nice raisins and a bit of caramel. Bit milky. Amazing dark dried fruit in the mouth. Prunes, raisins, currants. Smooth and rather lovely. Some burntness. Rich. Like Christmas cake.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 yngwie (10760) - Kristiansand, NORWAY - JUL 1, 2006
Bottled. Reddish, dark brown with a beige head. Roasted aroma with fruitiness, pear, and some alcohol. Quite weak aroma, and quite weak flavor, with chocolate and coffee dominating. It has some alcohol in the finish, but it is in general well hidden. Quite pleasant beer. (060616)
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 argo0 (10388) - Washington DC, USA - DEC 25, 2006
(50cl bottle) Healthy tan head atop clear red-black body. Aroma is medium sweet, cherry, raisin, coffee, caramel, light anise. Taste is moderately sweet, coffee, chocolate, raisin/plum, some caramel, almond, light anise. Alcohol warming. Creamy yet watery medium-full body, surprisingly drinkable.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 TBone (9999) - Pori, FINLAND - JUN 12, 2005
Bottled (BB 10/2005)
Very dark ruby, creamy expresso head. Burnt malt aroma, slightly sugary - a bit similar to Zywiec Porter. Medium-bodied. Cold coffee, salted licorice powder. Soft palate - hides alcohol very well (actually some kick from alcohol would do good), good malty base but hop profile is weak. Far from complex and interesting Zywiec.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Maria (9570) - Thisted, DENMARK - FEB 11, 2007
Black/brown, slightly transparent with a limited head, that leaves a nice lace. The aroma has notes of roasted malt and sweet licorice. The flavour is sweetish with brief sweet coffee notes, then more roasted malt, licorice and the sweet coffee returns in the rather long finish. A bit too sweet for me.... 1871
2.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 bhensonb (8997) - Woodland, California, USA - AUG 10, 2007
Aroma of toasted dark malt. Nearly opaque dark brown color with a tan head that is substantial. A bit thin in body. Starts with coffee, followed by toffee. Definite toffee candy sweet. The finish is not dry, and the toffee flavor persists. Interesting, but something of a one note. Not that there might not be hidden complexity, just not obvious to me.
3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 bierkoning (8956) - La Tropica, NETHERLANDS - AUG 25, 2006
Sold as Czarny Boss Porter in Ermelo. Deep dark brown color, almost opague. Coffee aroma with a touch of caramel. Just below medium bodied. Roasted malt, coffee, molasses, hints of apple. Likeable but somewhat grainy and sweet. No first class quality.
