This 9.4% hides its alcohol well. Nice blend of chocolate raisins and coffee in the flavor. The finish is surprisingly mild and sweet. Seems to be missing that ’something’ in the finish. The sweetness lingers with some vanilla as I drink it more.

Bottle at movie Gone Girl. Not great- licorice and sweet notes overpowering. Tons of toasted malt on the nose and cola. Medium mouthfeel. More of a winter beer. Sweetness and lack of balance kind of ruined it for me. Only mildly carbonated. Right look and mouthfeel- wrong taste.

A porter that will put hair on your chest. Slightly but not very boozy. Strong porter notes. Thinner than a stout; well labeled.

Pours black with a tan head. Aroma is roast, cola and licorice. Taste is sweeter then expected with some mild acidic tartness. Medium bodied with the alcohol well hidden, thin texture and soft carbonation.

Surprisingly little aroma. Sweet and malty. Definitely an enjoyable sweet beer.

UPDATED: MAR 8, 2014 Bottle. Dark brown, but not quite inky, with a thin brown head. Aroma is sweet, but in a way that isn’t entirely appealing, cola-ish with caramel and dark fruits. Tootsie Rolls! That;s what I’m getting here! And I’m not crazy about it. The palate is much the same, more caramel, very little roast, and with a dusty, flinty dryness in the finish. Just okay.

This has a very distinct smell, like licorice or something else I can’t quite name. The taste is interesting, I get the malt flavor as well as a sour note like black licorice, as well as other flavors I can’t quite pinpoint. It does seem a bit thick on the palate, but enjoyable when sipped.

Bottle. Pours almost opaque amber, appears black in the glass. Light tan head, dissipates to the edges, which stick around. Smells like the sweeter end of the porter spectrum. Taste is sharp but not bitter, simple and to the point. Smoother than I expected. Nice sipping porter.
