3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Leighton (6921) - London, ENGLAND - APR 1, 2013
Growler at Wally’s - big thanks to the host! Pours black-brown with a tight, tan foam head. Lots of charred cocoa in the nose. Medium sweet flavor with robust roasted malts, light coffee, earth, bitter burnt wood, light milk chocolate. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Fairly bitter to finish with lots of bittersweet baking cocoa, burnt earth, charred wood, burnt grass. Decent stuff though a touch too bitter at the end. Lots of charcoal and ash linger.

On tap at Blue Lobster. Pours near black. Nose is a bit of roast along with chocolate and coffee. Flavor melds quite well. Bit of roast through the finish after coffee and chocolate. Good body.

UPDATED: MAR 13, 2013 Growler from the source. To snifter it pours deep dark brown with a nice toffee head. Aromas of fudge, pencil shavings, Dutched chocolate, traditional yeast, blackberries, char, and rosemary. Tastes of candied ginger, milk chocolate, plums, caramel apples, ash, and licorice. Blueberry syrup, cocoa, and coffee dregs by swallow. Thin and crisp. I’ll indeed be getting more.

Oily black 2 finger off white head fades to some gorgeous lacing
Nose is lots of smoked malts and some bakers chocolate with some hint of licorice
Taste is really nice. Great balance of smoke and chocolate and decent caerbonation. Not as full bodied as expected but most importantly, a dark beer that’s highly drinkable without being too smoky or malty

Howler from brewery. Pours a deep burnt umber color with a finger or so of tight foam that sticks nicely. Aromas are roasty chocolate malts with some creamy hints of coffee. The palate follows suit with a nice delicate play between coffee and chocolate and a beautiful silky smooth mouthfeel that delivers the flavors with a subtle gentle grace. A really smooth drinkable stout that disappears from the glass very quickly ! Keep up the great work Blue Lobster !
4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 oteyj (2114) - New Hampshire, USA - JAN 6, 2013
On tap on 401 in Hampton. A nearly black pour with slight brown around the edges, with an off white frothy head to blanket it all. Cocoa nib, brownie, hints of roast, mocha, and milk chocolate in the nose give way to soft roasted malts, lactic cocoa, super suble dark fruit (Special B perhaps?) and hints of dark roasted coffee. Very well executed flavor profile integration- no one facet ever overpowers any others. Medium body with a dry finish, leading to extreme sesionability. Another excellent offering from Blue Lobster.
