Gravity cask, at C’Est What Spring Festival, May 29, 2010. Quite dark black-red, probably cloudy, hard to tell, with a small frothy beige-tan head. Smells like an English brown ale or mild - dry, very roasty (nuts & coffee beans), a bit acrid - heavy underlying syrupy sweetness more than balanced by pungent floral bitterness in some quantity, and very noticeable tart/underripe fruitiness. Taste - "so that’s what dandelion tastes like?" - milky, sour, herbal, astringent - really adds those sweetness-killing elements to the simple underlying roasty mild/stout, makes it very memorable - weird, but I dug it big time; rhubarb-y, if you like, overlying a simple chocolate/nutty backbone. Average body, slick and VERY astringent mouthfeel, not much carbonation (cask), with a dry/sour finish. I couldn’t drink it in quantity, but I applaud the effort - would like some of the London RB crew to have had a try at it to get their take on it.

Cask at C’est What 2010 Spring Festival. Pours a very porter-like dark brown Thin tan head does not last. Aroma is slightly roasted but with other (?) almost floral notes. Tastes like roasted malt mixed with some sort of dying flower. These two things just don’t seem to fit together and while I applaud the effort it has to be ranked as a decent tasting failure. .

Cask at C’est What 2010 Spring Festival. Pours a near-black dark brown with thin beige cap. Mild roast and grains in the aroma. Flavour is roasty with a strong and unusual sort of grainy/spicy taste. Harsh bitterness in finish. Certainly unusual but as a sample not bad.

On cask at C’est What Spring Fesival. Creamy chocolate mouthfeel and taste, a little roast and vegetables in the secondary. This is not for everyone, as dandelion flowers added bulk, but wierd plant tastes. Pitch black with some bubbles for head. The aroma is floral and chocolate, some roast. Drinkable..once.
