Pours dark brown. Some hops and some but aroma with coffee. A little heAD, no lacing. Finishes bitter. Bottle.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 dandeman (230) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - FEB 17, 2013
Aroma: Fruity malt accents like raisins and field berries with roasted notes of milk chocolate and a bit of caramel and brown sugar. Very interesting nose.
Appearance: Brown with red glints, mostly clear, small creamy head but persistent. Lacing is fading rapidly.
Taste: Attack is pretty roasted with notes of roasted grain. Not chocolate or coffee but roasted cereals. Farmyard taste. Also field berries and blackcurrant. Mouth feel is thin and watery but soft. Interesting roasted bitterness and wonderful nose are the characteristics of this beer. Few hoppy notes.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 BreWedge (182) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 15, 2013
500 ml bottle. Pours a dark but clear brown with a small off-white head. Aromas are of chocolate, nuts, and barnyard. Taste is dry roasty malt and nutty bitterness. Light carbonation with an upfront bitter bite and a short finish. Not an overly complex beer.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Viper666 (2763) - Quebec, CANADA - JAN 26, 2013

Post-goût moyen-court, très légèrement amer de rôti etde café avec des notes de houblon herbeux.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 TheJester (1490) - Peterborough, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 25, 2013
500 mL bottle. Brown with virtually no head. Nutty aroma, as a brown ale should have. Nutty flavour as well, with some white bread as well. A little thin, but not too bad. Better than anything Trafalgar brews for themselves, which leads me to believe that it’s the recipes, not the equipment.
3.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 gilvanblight (686) - Windsor, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 3, 2013
Very dark brown but clear pour with a small amount of white head that basically just ringed the glass. Really nice fresh field like scent. Farm like without the manure. For whatever reason it smells wholesome and inviting. Really dig this smell. Nice and easy to drink. Warming and nutty. A bit sweet. Easy to drink with low carbonation. I know most beer aficionados would kill me for this but I’m enjoying this significantly more than the Russion Gun Imperial Stout. A fine beer. Cool to see it’s a "Historic Beer of Canada" as well. Patriotism in a bottle :D Wish I had bought more.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Canmoore (79) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 21, 2012
Bottle from the LCBO, this beer pours a very dark clear deep mahogany, with basically no head at all. The smells are just exploding with rich malts, burnt caramel, and roasted coffee. Upon tasting, the lack of carbonation is the most noticeable characteristic. The beer has a wide range of deep malt flavours coming through, with chocolates, coffee, toffee, and caramel dominating the palate. Initially there is very little in the way hops, but they do kick in at the end, albeit very mild. If you are not turned off the the lack of carbonation, than this is a great brown ale, and I will definitely be buying more!
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 DerWeg (1402) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 16, 2012
Paler Coke appearance with lighter than usual carbonation and little head. Pleasing dry-malty aromas and taste with a little carmel and berry-like ale-fruit, very nice medium palate with plays of grain bitterness and pale malt body, long finish of mineral, dry hop and light roast. A superior session ale that plays it straight in a good way.
2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 Hateball16 (90) - - DEC 7, 2012
500 Ml bottle from LCBO.
Appearance: Liqourice black, head almost non existent even with a vigorous pour action.
Aroma: Molasses, coffee, liquorice, floral hop faint in the background.
Flavour: Burnt toffee, almost a resiny flavour (not a fault though). Not much to the finish. Not very complex. Low to no bitterness.
Mouthfeel: Quite flat which may be the point of the beer (it’s supposed to pay homage to a beer from the early 1800s), very little impact, not much going on in the finish either and a distinct lack of an aftertaste. Strange.
Overall: Disappointed in DH, as I wanted to try it for a while after loving the Rifleman’s Ration. Not worth buying again.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 Beer Snob (493) - Ontario, CANADA - DEC 6, 2012
Slight haze and little carbonation - looks like iced tea. No head. Sweet chocolate aroma. Taste starts great - fuller than expected with a burst of sweet malt, but the aftertaste is a bit astringent as opposed to bitter. It lingers for longer than I would have liked.
