3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 JesseM (1102) - Ottawa, Ontario, - JUN 10, 2012500mL bottle from my likcboe. Pours a dark amber with a tiny off-white head. Aroma is nice, highlighted by roasted caramalts, toffee, and hint of coffee. Flavour has the same pleasant malty character that features in the aroma, with a mildly bitter roasty finish. Lighter body with moderate carbonation. Over-all pretty sweet but not in a cloying way. Not very complex but that definitely was not the intention, so I think this is very good for what it is. If I were a Red Coat in the early 19th century, I’d be pretty happy to throw back my daily rations of two pints of this decent beer.

2012-12-24. Dark red brown body, tiny beige head. 3+ modest dry malty aroma, light earthy quality. 6+ flavour is similar, dry earthy malt lingers into the finish, modest bitterness throughout. Very mild nutty undertones. 6+ average palate is under carbonated and feels thinner as a result. Decent, accomplishes what they were aiming for I expect but it is not really to my own tastes. Bottle, LCBO, Brantford
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 czar (2232) - Québec, Quebec, CANADA - NOV 29, 2012
pours hazy copper-light brown-ish, red tint, without a head. aroma: nice blend of caramel, nuts, spices, and leafy-grassy hops - light but present hopping. fresh toasted and lightly roasted cereals. taste has also earthiness, very hint of wood and nuts, hint of chocolate, clovey. average to soft carbonation, light to medium body. overall: thought it would have been boring, but it wasn’t.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Elwood (2493) - Leesburg, Virginia, USA - NOV 27, 2012
Serving: 500 ml bottle courtesy of my brother in law. Thanks Brian! It pours a ruddy brown with a large head of loose tan bubbles. The nose is faintly roasty with not much else. The flavor oddly enough follows suit. There is a light roasty flavor with a hint of dark nuttiness, maybe a little black walnut. Faint earthiness with a lingering light hop bitterness. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Interesting brew that borders on becoming a porter.

Bouteille 500ml.

500ml bottle from the LCBO. Hazy brownish red with a small (with a vigorous pour!) frothy off-white head. Dry, vaguely sweet aroma that reminds me of birchbark. Taste - pencil shavings, shredded wheat and dry, dry herbal bitterness. Body is on the light side, it’s a bit undercarbonated and astringent, but it has a dessicated dry toasted wheat finish and damned if I don’t actually LOVE this beer ....
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20 asheft (2264) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - AUG 22, 2012
[bottle at DwEEBs meeting]
Artificial viennese coffee creamer aroma with a bit of smoke. Almost clear chestnut appearance with an off-white ring. Creamy, artificial creamer flavour that is not unappealing with lots of vanilla roastiness, ending in a slightly astringent bitterness together with some mineral water. Light body, low carbonation.
