COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Black Death Beer has a pitch black colour and light brown creamy head. Aroma is roasted malt with strong notes of coffee and chocolate. Sweet spicy flavour with smoky aftertaste. It was launched in Iceland in 2011 and has been very well received, especially among younger beer drinkers (20-30 year old). Black Death is a brand owned by Valgeir Sigurðsson, an Icelandic native who launched vodka and snaps lines under this brand in the eighties with great success in many markets. The brand became famous when Slash, the famous guitar player of Guns ‘n’ Roses became an aficionado.

UPDATED: AUG 31, 2012 033 bottle bought at Vinmonopolet Tromsø sentrum. Deep brown body, almost black. Thin beige head. Aroma of coffee-caramel, roasted malts, licorice and soya beans. Roasty finish, with some smoke. Good, but not great. Rated with my good friend Alexander.

Bottle from Vínbúðin; unappealing label (a skull with hat and guitars; apparently bad taste is shared with the Danish)
Black color with generous beige head. Nice aroma, breadcrust, oven baked. Lean body, but smooth mouthfeel; plenty of roasted malts with a bready chewiness; strong bitterness; in the final there is an impression of campfire and ashes.
Very good beer; I’m interested to see what becomes if brewed at slightly higher gravity.

Pours black, with diminishing tan head. Roasty malt, chocolate and caramel. Medium sweet, light bitter. Kind of short.

Bottle. Nice glug glug balck pour, pretty thick looking. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee nuts and light hops. Taste, fairly carbonated, some roasted malts, thin mouth feel, light hops, fairly dry finish. Overall, a nice porter, it groundbreaking but good overall balance.

Poured deep dark brown with a dense tan head. Aroma of roast malt, muted dark fruit and chocolate. Medium to full body, flavour as the aroma, but a bit bland for the style.

Flaska köpt på "ölbutikken" i Helsingör. Rostade toner av malten. Bra balans i kroppen och smaken.

Bottle, bought @ YNWA, Kolding. Pours deep black with a lovely, staying, creamy, off-white head. Aroma has caramel, roasted malts, bit of coffee. Medium to low carbonation, fine dry and quite creamy mouthfeel - especially for the ABV. Flavour is lovely, roasted, quite bitter, chalky (in a good way), dark chocolate, some plums. Lovely dry bitter finish.

Bottle, served with the dessert course at Frederik V, Reykjavik. Dark cola brown body, thin tan cap. Sweet caramel and bitter chocolate combine to form a moderately sweet dark brew, without any real roast character. Quite full bodied though, just lacking some complexity. Nice enough.

Black as night with a slightly burnt taste reminiscent of fried mushrooms. Just ok.

330ml bottle This was enjoyed at the Bistro in Reykjavik. The Baltic Porter poured a deep dark black with a full 1/2 inch tan head with lacing. Roasted malt greets with you with hints of chocolate and coffee. The medium body porter had average carbonation. This is fun drink, one of the best of the dark beers in Iceland. The finish has toasted malts and chocolate with no bitterness.
