Bottle. Pours an opaque cola brown work a thin layer of tan head. Aroma and taste of bourbon, vanilla, roasted malts, and a hint of chocolate.

22 oz. bomber purchased at the brewery. No vintage on bottle. It pours a dark brown/cola color with a decent tan head. The aroma is pretty nice with lots of cocoa, lighter notes of vanilla and some sweet caramel that Iím guessing is the bourbon influence since I donít remember getting that from the regular version. A little bit of phenols come out as you swirl the glass that keeps this from being really nice. The flavor is pleasant enough with a cola sweetness (that I do remember from the regular version) caramel, and some barrel char and bourbon near the finish. Decent vanilla notes as well. I wish there was more of the cacao in the flavor. The body is a bit on the thin side, but I donít really mind as it helps the drinkability. Not superb, but I can dig thisÖ no sweat.

Dark black in color, thin tan head. Big bourbon aroma. This was a big malt build with a terrific bourbon flavor lingering. A fantastic Bourbon Barrel brew.

Draft. Blackish beer with a tan head. Light bourbon and malt aroma with light chocolate. Light chocolate and light bourbon lingers with malt. Medium bodied. Light bourbon lingers with light chocolate and light malt. Needs more barrel time.

Fantastic complex taste with notes of liquorice, vanilla, and coffee. Wonderfully balanced, sweetish, but not overly so and with a nice bitterness lingering on the tongue. Possibly a big of the thin side, and virtually no head. Overall, a very, very tasty beer though.

Opaque dark brown with a fluffy tan head. Wow. This is an amazingly complex beer. Amazingly floral red wine chocolate plume currants bourbon vanilla caramel and oak aroma and taste. Velvetty smooth palate Outstanding. Note: I hate when people complain that a bourbon barrel aged beer has too much bourbon flavor - thatís the point! It should have a lot of bourbon or itís not worth the effort!

City Beer Store. 2009 vintage. I loved the normal version of this beer, but the bourbon barrel aging really didnít work well for it, in my opinion. Thereís just way too much bourbon and far too little of the wonderful chocolatey malt flavor of the normal version. The aroma and flavor are almost entirely sweet bourbon with some oak. There are some mild dark malt notes, lurking beneath the bourbon, but theyíre much toned down. The beer just lacks complexity. The beer also thinned out considerably. Itís almost a bit watery. It pours a few shades paler than the normal version, about the color of light roast drip coffee, with little head. They turned a thick, rich, complex beer into a simplistic watery bourbon fest. Thatís a bit overly negative - Iím just upset since I liked the normal version so much.
