Dark black in color, thin tan head. Big bourbon aroma. This was a big malt build with a terrific bourbon flavor lingering. A fantastic Bourbon Barrel brew.

Draft. Blackish beer with a tan head. Light bourbon and malt aroma with light chocolate. Light chocolate and light bourbon lingers with malt. Medium bodied. Light bourbon lingers with light chocolate and light malt. Needs more barrel time.

Fantastic complex taste with notes of liquorice, vanilla, and coffee. Wonderfully balanced, sweetish, but not overly so and with a nice bitterness lingering on the tongue. Possibly a big of the thin side, and virtually no head. Overall, a very, very tasty beer though.

Opaque dark brown with a fluffy tan head. Wow. This is an amazingly complex beer. Amazingly floral red wine chocolate plume currants bourbon vanilla caramel and oak aroma and taste. Velvetty smooth palate Outstanding. Note: I hate when people complain that a bourbon barrel aged beer has too much bourbon flavor - that’s the point! It should have a lot of bourbon or it’s not worth the effort!

City Beer Store. 2009 vintage. I loved the normal version of this beer, but the bourbon barrel aging really didn’t work well for it, in my opinion. There’s just way too much bourbon and far too little of the wonderful chocolatey malt flavor of the normal version. The aroma and flavor are almost entirely sweet bourbon with some oak. There are some mild dark malt notes, lurking beneath the bourbon, but they’re much toned down. The beer just lacks complexity. The beer also thinned out considerably. It’s almost a bit watery. It pours a few shades paler than the normal version, about the color of light roast drip coffee, with little head. They turned a thick, rich, complex beer into a simplistic watery bourbon fest. That’s a bit overly negative - I’m just upset since I liked the normal version so much.
