COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In developing this Belgian-style Pale Ale we could not arrive at a single yeast strain that conveyed the flavors we wanted. We were striving for some Belgian funkiness without being too funky. At last our mad Brewmaster Derek decided to brew the beer in two batches with two yeast strains and blend them post fermentation. Voilà, he had nailed it.The rye malt adds subtle spicy malt tones, aromatic for breadiness/ maltiness, and the Cara20 for sweetness and color. Sterling hops are derived from Saaz and Cascade hops and have a spiciness with subtle orange/ grapefruit tones. Liberty hops have a German Noble hop flavor and aroma (earthy, spearmint-like). The first yeast gives it a nice clean flavor with subtle aromas of pear/apple and honey, but not much Belgian character. The second yeast emphasizes the Belgian character, with more spiciness from the phenols. They are fermented separately to ensure consistent amounts of yeast cultures in subsequent brews, and then blended during filtration.

Bottle. Aroma is slight spice, yeasty esters, and malt. Has a copper color thin white head that dissipated quickly. Taste has some spice, Belgian yeast, a bit of citrus, and sweet malt. Overall rather forgettable.

12oz bottle - La Trappe mini goblet - Total Wine in Bellevue - ~$1.79

Pop the cap and beer slowly foams up the neck. As expected an overly carbonated head forms in the beer. A clear golden body otherwise. Aroma is poor ester management with very slick yet astringent bubblegum. Some thin banana as well. Flavor is similar as well. Lots of astringent esters. Really a sad attempt at the style.

Bottle. Clear amber color with ivory head. Bready, dusty pale malt aromas with mild dry spices. Medium bodied. Bready, toasted pale malt flavors with mild earthy hoppage, and mild dry spice, straw---decent

"pours copper in color with nominal white head which disappears quickly and some faint lacing. The aroma has the belgian yeast playing a big role here, some very faint citrus and pear, slight sweet malt character, lots of spice from the yeast. The taste follows the aroma for the most part, yeast notes almost too much, which overpowers malt and hop characters, more sweet malt on the finish with some lemon zest on the mid palate, spice and pear notes are very forward. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and a little over carbonated."

Clear orange pour big head. Aroma peppery funk. Taste is spicy rye grains meet banana belgian yeast. Aroma hops flavor slight bitter. Slight sticky yet watery palate. Lighter carb. More sessionable than most belgians due to pilsner characteristics/less yeastiness. Well balanced. The rye and saison funk flavor keeps me coming back.

14K gold in color with a modest yet lasting head. Light in aroma although I do detect some dusty green herbs entwined with the caramel. Medium nectar with good carbonation. Decent flavor, mostly rich caramel with nice bittering on the finish. Very drinkable in this hot weather.

12oz bottle, from Jungle Jim’s in Eastgate. Almost entirely hazy orange color. Thin, kind of bubbly off-white head. Few bits of lace. Kind of crisp carbonation. Medium body. Orange, citrusy, kind of lightly hoppy flavor. Light spice. Moderate bitter taste, above average for the style, light on the sweet. Light zesty. Just a light bit of spicy bite. Definitely a more assertive, hoppy blonde. Finishes dry. Not much belgian yeast character to this, drinks more like an American golden ale. Better than expected, though.

12oz bottle pours with a clear copper body and gold hues while supporting a thin light tan head. The modest aroma has some apricot and apple yeasty esters to start and then slides into mellow and mild citrus hop notes. The taste delivers fruity esters o-plenty with apple and pear and apricot. To midway mild malt sweetened citrus hops comes to the surface as well as a bit of a malty graininess. Interesting brew with just enough hops going on to keep it from being too sweet.

12oz bottle in a tumbler. Pours amber with a lacy, off-white head. Aroma of pale malts with light spices and light hops. Flavor the same. Average texture. Not the best.

It pours a cloudy gold with a thin white head that leaves spotty lacing. The aroma is a quite pleasant blend of spice. The mouthfeel is surprisingly kind of thick but the flavor is good. It’s a decent Belgian and certainly is a step up from your Blue Moon’s.

Pleasantly surprised by this one. I’ve passed it up many times before, but I’m glad I finally gave it a go. It pours an attractive clear gold color with an off white head. The aroma has some fresh grainy malt with mild hints of earthy and noble hops. Light lemon and wheat. The flavor is full bodied for the style with dry pilsner maltiness. A little more wheat as well. Clean and tasty. I’ll be rotating this into my summer heat lineup!
