COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our take on a "west coast style" IPA, Jagged Edge is big and hoppy, yet it’s also extremely well balanced, and surprisingly easy to reach for another. We "first wort hop" with Columbus, and use Simcoe for flavor additions. The finishing hop additions include Columbus, Centennial, and Simcoe. Columbus is pungent with sweet orange aromas and flavor. Centennial adds floral notes along with additional citrus. Simcoe add a nice pine like flavor and aroma. These hops were chosen for their flavors and their moderate cohumulone content, which means they are bitter but not overwhelmingly bitter in large quantities. Pale malts are complemented by caramalt and light munich malts, which both enhance the malty sweetness and color and work to balance the substantial hop bill.

Poured a slightly dark hazy orange color with a medium-sized off-white head. Looks like a wheat beer. Aroma is very hoppy with resin and some grapefruit. Also some caramel and oranges. Taste has lots of citrus and hops. The flavor transitions into a fruity and sweet taste. Some grain flavors as well. A bitter finish, but the aftertaste is long and sweet with orange notes. Overall quite nice.

Bottle; clear orange type color with a big frothy head. Aroma of earth, fruit, orange, yeast, lemon, and some zesty type hints. Alot of citrus. Flavor had alot of bitterness too it; zesty and citrus/orange. Definitely has a bite to it and has some good orange notes. Pleasant surprise.

650mL bottle poured a golden color with about 2 fingers of white head that had some nice retention and some fine lacing. Aroma of citrusy hops and some grain. Taste is a nice balance of hoppy bitterness and malty sweetness. A slightly above average IPA that was a treat to sample.

On tap: Pours a clear deep golden brass with a clingy-lacing white head. Has a fresh resiny grapefruity hop nose with some lightly sweet pale malts. Starts with good fullness and light malty sweetness with juicy hop flavor before a crisp bittersweet finish. A nicely balanced and enjoyable IPA.

20 Sept 2011, bottle. orange/yellow, a little cloudy w/ a tiny bit of sediment, steady bubbles, thick rocky head. nose is initially pink grapefruit hops and then fades into an oily citrus rind. thin/med body and fizzy, almost foamy in the mouth. white grapefruit citrus hops but not too much bitter finish. enough malt profile to give it body and some balance but not enough to really talk about malt taste or be competition for dry grapefruit hops.

12oz bottle. Pours a clear copper color with a one finger off white head that has a nice retention. The aroma has lots of citrus and a good dose of sweet malt. The taste is nicely balanced sweet malt and citrusy hops with a slight graininess as well. Mouthfeel is nice and full, very crisp, and a dry finish.

You can see right threw this golden beer. It has some hits of citrus and a strong hopi taste...

Elwood (3027) - Leesburg, Virginia, USA - SEP 14, 2011
Serving: 12 oz. bottle from State Line Liquors. It pours a clear copper color with a large off white head of tightly packed bubbles. The nose has notes of orange, pineapple, and pine. The flavor is straight up bitterness. Not much on the malt side. There is a little sweetness when your tongue gets used to the bitterness, but not much. No subtlety here, you get smacked on the tongue with some citrus and tropical fruit plus a strong aspirin like bitterness. The lack of balance makes this brew less enjoyable than it could be. Medium bodied with average carbonation leading to a very long, bitter finish. It’s not terrible, but vastly out classed by other IPAs.
