COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our take on a "west coast style" IPA, Jagged Edge is big and hoppy, yet itís also extremely well balanced, and surprisingly easy to reach for another. We "first wort hop" with Columbus, and use Simcoe for flavor additions. The finishing hop additions include Columbus, Centennial, and Simcoe. Columbus is pungent with sweet orange aromas and flavor. Centennial adds floral notes along with additional citrus. Simcoe add a nice pine like flavor and aroma. These hops were chosen for their flavors and their moderate cohumulone content, which means they are bitter but not overwhelmingly bitter in large quantities. Pale malts are complemented by caramalt and light munich malts, which both enhance the malty sweetness and color and work to balance the substantial hop bill.

12oz bottle. Pours a mostly clear deep gold with a frothy white head, decent lacing. Nose held some citrus and grassy hops, light cereal grain as well. Light biscuity malts and light hop bitterness in the finish, balanced IPA.

GLBN IPA Challenge 2011, light to medium golden pour, clean aroma with medium hops , even flavor of malts & hop bitterness. had a nice run but should fall to Ithacaís Flower Power in round 3

Bottle:   Amber, a little dirty, sediment floats about, large spritzy white head, nice lacing.   Now I know why it had such a huge head, seems to possibly be a little infected.   Pixie stix like candy sweetness on the nose, otherwise there is a sweet citrusy hop background.   Fairly airy... burp.   Not a big IPA, seems more of Pale Ale.   Dry, a little tart, pixie stix sweetness, hop backside.   Yeah, very fizzy.   Seems as if something may have gotten into this bottle.   Not bad, but I know its not supposed to be like this.   Re-rate when I get the chance.

16-May-09 (12-oz bottle: Gift from SDbruboy, thanks Cliff!) The label says this is "audaciously hopped and framed with a big malt backbone," and while this is a very malty IPA, itís not so audaciously hopped as one might be lead to believe. Rather, the hops are moderate in flavor and bitterness, which makes this a nicely balanced IPA. Iíll take balance over audacious over-hopping any day! The minimally sweet malts are grainy and corny while the hops are dusty, grassy and earthy, finishing with a flurry of piney resin. The aromatic nose is extremely grassy, earthy, vegetal, corny and grainy, with a touch of honey sweetness. Dry on the palate, moderately carbonated, and medium "plus" in body, the beer has a more substantial mouthfeel than a lot of other IPAs. Slightly hazy and golden-amber in color in the glass, but the off-white head pours to barely more than a filmy layer and quickly settles away to a razor-thin ring that canít leave any lacing on the glass. A nicely balanced IPA, but the flavor profile doesnít do much for me.

Dark amber color with lots of sparkle like champagne, small but frothy head. Intense, bitter hops from beginning to end. More bitterness than Iím used to, find it a little difficult/unpleasant to drink from very, very long bitter finish.

A decent IPA I suppose. Bought a sixer of these in San Ramon, CA. Nose is grassy. Flavor is grapefruit juice, with its same kind of bitter flavor. Notes of apricot in there and itís pretty dry.

On tap at the BJís Brewery in Stockton. First ordered the Tempest IPA. Flat as a board. Sent it back and they recommended this. Have never heard of it. Again relatively flat. Must be the way they do things here in Stockton (wink). Darker than the normal IPA, very light in the hop aroma department. Same goes for the flavor. Remarkably unremarkable.

Bottle: Very lively misty orange with a huge white fizzy head, seems infected from the pour. The nose is malty but a little tart with some funk and hops. The flavor is about the same, metallic and a little infected with the hops on top. Tart and zesty. Hmmm. The tail is a little more dry and bitter but this one is gone.

Clear orangish golden with a creamy white head. Grapefruit and mild lemon and pine aroma. Grassy citrus taste with a mild bitterness and a hay and caramel finish.
