COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our take on a "west coast style" IPA, Jagged Edge is big and hoppy, yet itís also extremely well balanced, and surprisingly easy to reach for another. We "first wort hop" with Columbus, and use Simcoe for flavor additions. The finishing hop additions include Columbus, Centennial, and Simcoe. Columbus is pungent with sweet orange aromas and flavor. Centennial adds floral notes along with additional citrus. Simcoe add a nice pine like flavor and aroma. These hops were chosen for their flavors and their moderate cohumulone content, which means they are bitter but not overwhelmingly bitter in large quantities. Pale malts are complemented by caramalt and light munich malts, which both enhance the malty sweetness and color and work to balance the substantial hop bill.

Medium sized white head with good retention, lacing is fair, lasting. Clear, gold/light copper color. Nose is weird, grapes and grassy notes. Body is medium, gentle carbonation, minerally. A bit of fruity flavors, grapes, apples and some piney notes, dry maltiness, salty. Dry finish, lightly metallic. Aint happenin. Bottle from statelineliquors.

Whole Foods Market, DC 6-pack ($12): Pours an orange color with a white head. Aroma is of piny hops, some herbal hops, and then a couple of other hops. I felt that this beer was very unbalanced towards the hops. basically, there are a few hop profiles in here (none of which are really my favorites) and then little else. Pretty bitter, but not brutally so, just extremely piny. An ok IPA with nothing bad going on, but then again not outstanding.

Relatively light golden coloured body with a few bubbles rising from the bottom with a thin white head. Aroma of fresh and rather potent hop flowers with some good light sweetness, a bit of drying oak or cotton and some minor malt flavours - all of that coupled with the very strong and noted hop notes of pine and flowers. Aftertaste nice as well with more drying and hop notes than anything else, leaving the palate relatively dry and refreshed after this one. I sampled this 12 ounce bottle purchased from Bridgeís in Danville, California on 19-March-2011.

Bottle from Snojerk321. This was a little bit of a gusher. The pour is a slightly murky dark gold color with a thick off-white head. Herbal, biscuity, grassy, and toffee aroma. The flavors are clean and drinkable, showing herbal, pine, and grassy hops, with a toasty caramel backbone although the entire package is far from assertive. I canít think of a single thing thatís bad about this beer but Iím also finding it difficult to think of anything that stands out as good either. I guess, decent beer that lacks punch or excitement.

12oz bottle. Pours a mostly clear deep gold with a frothy white head, decent lacing. Nose held some citrus and grassy hops, light cereal grain as well. Light biscuity malts and light hop bitterness in the finish, balanced IPA.

Bottle:   Amber, a little dirty, sediment floats about, large spritzy white head, nice lacing.   Now I know why it had such a huge head, seems to possibly be a little infected.   Pixie stix like candy sweetness on the nose, otherwise there is a sweet citrusy hop background.   Fairly airy... burp.   Not a big IPA, seems more of Pale Ale.   Dry, a little tart, pixie stix sweetness, hop backside.   Yeah, very fizzy.   Seems as if something may have gotten into this bottle.   Not bad, but I know its not supposed to be like this.   Re-rate when I get the chance.

16-May-09 (12-oz bottle: Gift from SDbruboy, thanks Cliff!) The label says this is "audaciously hopped and framed with a big malt backbone," and while this is a very malty IPA, itís not so audaciously hopped as one might be lead to believe. Rather, the hops are moderate in flavor and bitterness, which makes this a nicely balanced IPA. Iíll take balance over audacious over-hopping any day! The minimally sweet malts are grainy and corny while the hops are dusty, grassy and earthy, finishing with a flurry of piney resin. The aromatic nose is extremely grassy, earthy, vegetal, corny and grainy, with a touch of honey sweetness. Dry on the palate, moderately carbonated, and medium "plus" in body, the beer has a more substantial mouthfeel than a lot of other IPAs. Slightly hazy and golden-amber in color in the glass, but the off-white head pours to barely more than a filmy layer and quickly settles away to a razor-thin ring that canít leave any lacing on the glass. A nicely balanced IPA, but the flavor profile doesnít do much for me.
