What compels a journey- Beyond the realm of possibilities? Peak XV- The Earth’s highest mountain- Was first measured in 1856, then renamed Mt. Everest nine years later. In 20 years the ascent was proposed, but it would be another 68 years (and several unsuccessful attempts later) before the summit was finally reached. In admiration of the human spirit and the courage required to accomplish this supreme feat, we offer this dark towering brew. Subtle undertones of vanilla are brought forth using multiple sources of whole vanilla beans, followed by a stupendous nose of dark chocolate - Provided by locally sourced cacao nibs. The flavor is massive chocolate, creamy vanilla, toasty and malty. The finish is epic.

Bottle at Stone sour ale fest. Dark brown pour, with a tan head. Roasted malts, dry dark chocolate, vanilla, light notes of oak, and some dark fruit. Kind of boozy, but warming. A fairly dry, bitter imperial porter.

I really like this brew. Pours with a big nose on it. Porter qualities are strong.. Roasted malts, strong alcohol. Great winter brew.

Bottle purchased at City Beer back in August. Pours dark brown with a huge tan head. Boozy and malty nose with notes of chocolate, vanilla, caramel and tobacco. Flavor starts with caramel malt and becomes booze and somewhat subtle vanilla before a bitter chocolate finish.

Poured into a 12oz glass. Colour is basically black, with thick tan head. Aroma is interesting, trying to put a finger on what I smell... Coriander is notice, some alcohol smell. Flavour is also of alcohol, but still other fruit and floral flavours come through, maybe slightly oaky. Overall it is in the barley wine category, of which I’m not as familiar with.

Black Diamond Peak XV Pours dark brown with a hazy red edge. Not much head to speak of but ok retention. Kinda ugly. Aroma of roasted vanilla with malt and some chocolate. Smells nice and rich but a slight metallic note. Flavor is sweet roasty vanilla with mocha and some yummy.

bottle from baker 7/29/10. pours a bit darker than red porter color with a tan head. typical decent aroma... wood, nutty, cream and cocoa. medium bodied. the flavor is the same although the palate is fairly dry and crispy. a little sourness shows up on the finish and vanilla lingers mildly in the aftertaste. 6.5/3.5/7/3/15/3.5

Pours dark brown with a tan/orange head. The aroma is burnt, woody, malty and a tad spicy. The flavor is similar and pretty dry with some bitter bakers chocolate, a touch of vanilla and dried dark fruits. The finish is spicy and roasted. The body is a tad weak. This was good, but a tad dry and bitter for this style.

22oz bottle from BevMo. Pours a a deep cola brown with a good sized tan head, some nice lacing left on the glass. Nose held some cocoa, coffee, vanilla and roasted malts. Vanilla really comes through in the finish, reminds me of Victory @ Sea’s little brother.
