4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
not sure if this is the same as the other imperial porter listed here, this is a brand new release with no bottling date. fun label with really beautiful wax job: the color of the wax is awesome striated gold, and the really cool part is that there is actually a small piece of string tape slightly exposed at the bottom, on the back side from the label mind you, so that you can easily gain access to the cap for opening, and still have it look great if you want to keep the bottle. best wax job i have seen period. on to the beer: the pour is super thick black with a dark tan to medium brown head that leaves a skim and nice spotting and pieces of lace. the aroma is nice, and gets a lot better as it warms up. there is a strong porter/lager yeast profile present, which adds some spicy, earthy aromas over a big burnt backbone. the taste is to match, nice and spicy cloves and esters with a big smoky burnt as shit stage to play on; and coupled with the palate this is pretty crushing for an 8% porter. it seems bigger, and has a lot of stout qualities to it, border lining stout for sure with the huge burnt profile. its another reason i love a good importer, the stout like body set off with the brighter top fermenting yeast profile, very nice. i also just noticed that its a bay area brewery, which is a plus, pretty surprised with it actually.

This 2011 vintage bottle, thanks to Myron, pours with a nice looking mahogany colored body that supports a tan head of foam. The aroma offers up sweet malts and freshly mixed chocolate milk, heavy on the chocolate that bursts out of the glass. The taste is similar and full of yum where it tastes surprising like over chocolate Nestle chocolate milk where there are thin smatterings of malts here and there. Wow, nearly straight up chocolate goodness, I like it.

An incredible porter. Pours a beautiful syrupy black with a brown head. Smells like raisins, coffee and vanilla. A huge amount of vanilla in the taste. Some more coffee and chocolate too. Paired with Mushroom Lamb burger, the beer is smoothed out, becomes richer, and has some more chocolate in the finish. A damn good beer! Had in the bottle.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours copper brown with cherry highlights and an average, tan head. The aroma is coffee and hops. The flavor is both strong and tart. I typically enjoy porters that are a little richer and sweeter than this, but this was good. I don’t know if it would pair with food as well as, for insance, Sierra Nevada’s Porter does. But it is good.

2.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 5/20
Poured into an imperial pint glass. Nice finger and half of tan head on a black body.
The aroma is chocolate with a touch of vanilla. It’s nice but tough to distinguish any other smells.
Well, this combination of porter, vanilla beans and cacao nibs is a bad idea. There’s a bitter/sour/chocolate taste throughout that ruins the whole thing.
The texture is thicker with low carbonation.
Not recommended unless you’d like a sour chocolate porter.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Dark brown pour with a large tan head. The aroma is full of heavy milk chocolate with some vanilla and roasted malt. The flavor is very similar with the heavy chocolate and roasted malt notes complimented some dark fruit and vanilla. Medium mouthfeel and high, prickly carbonation.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Tap: blackish pour with medium-sized tan head. Aroma is malty with roast grain and a little charred wood. Flavor is thick malt with some chocolate and vanilla notes, coffee, salt and roasted grain. Fairly sweet with just traces of a grain bitterness. Tasty beer with nice flavor for easy sipping with spicy wings.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle; Color: Chocolate brown. Aroma: Sweet cocoa/malt/sugar. Flavor: Rich and thick with pretty impressive complexity. Tastes of dark chocolate thick and rich enough to satisfy any chocolate lovers palate. Vanilla is also tasted on a smaller scale, but absolutely delicous.
