COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We didnt want this to be Jagged Edge on steroids. Thus rather than using the same hop combination, we chose more fruit forward hops to balance out the alcohol in the beer. The medium crystal malt adds a very subtle color and sweetness. Nugget and Millenium hops are used to bitter. Citra is a new variety to the market that has some similar properties to Simcoe but a more pleasant fruitiness; pineapple/mango aromas mixed in with pine and cats pee. Centennial brings candied orange and Amarillo adds big grapefruit. The liquid in the fermenter is dry-hopped three times- each dry hop equal in weight to the dry hop of Jagged Edge. This multi-stage dry hopping is meant to layer the different hop aromas. The beer is fermented cool to suppress fusel alcohol development, and dextrose is added to allow it to attenuate out highly, leaving very little residual sugar. The idea was to avoid that syrupy "gumsmacker" effect thats sometimes found in Imperial IPAs. Other than barrel aged beers, this is by far our most labor intensive and expensive beer to make. Rampage fans are legion and we believe they deserve nothing less than the very best we can give them.

Reviewed from notes. This was poured into a snifter. The appearance was a hazy amber to brown color with a half finger white foamy head that dissipated within less than a minute. There was some light stringy lacing glossing along the sides of the glass. The smell had some light sweet citrus hops backed up by a decent sweet sticky caramel malt. The taste followed the aroma. On the palate, this one came through pretty sticky around my tongue. I say this sat about a medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. The carbonation was somewhat sharp but still constrained enough to be a good beer. Overall, I say this was a decent DIPA I could have again though probably not necessarily one I would seek out again.

Bottle. Pours a mostly clear darker amber color with a moderate off white head on there. Nose is grassy with quite a bit of hay in there. Taste is quite bitter, yet remains reasonably light. Drinkable, yet a bit too malty for me.

BIG expectations here, going to be awesome. 65 cl bottle, 9%, 88 IBU, 5.50, sadly last bottle found on the shelf. Cracked it open, strong aromatic hops and IPA smell right off the cap.
Appearance: Pours dark copper to orange color, partly hazed, not excessively, big smooth creamy offwhite-yellowish head.
Aroma: Right on the nose, amazing, it has THAT aroma of IPA. IT focuses greatly on the huge, pachidermic amount of american hops, leading to intense fruityness with orange on top, candy orange, pineapple and citrus, lors of resin, some grapefruit and pine. Malt component is smooth, bready, filling in nicely with shades of caramel and sugarcane. Bittering hops glues everything together in the finish. Excellent blend.
Taste: Surprisingly balanced within the massive amounts of ingredients, it finishes up to be 88 IBU, so definitely bitter, but also dampened by sweet malts componends, leading to and intense, aromatic, fairly dry finish. Alcohol is absoltely hidden, it does put gas on fire, but stays behind the scenes.
Palate: mouthfilling, silky texture, umami and tasty not overly thick however. Full bodied, proper soft carbonation. Alcohol does not burn, and its pleasing.
Overall: Amazing, truly amazing, turned out to be as expectations, a great reward. This is a perfect IPA base, pushed over its limits, i do believe Black Diamond put a lot of efforts into it, and its absolutely worth.

Flaske: Gul klar l med et stort skumhoved. Duft af alkohol og citrushumle. Smagen er bitter med en god del citrushumle. Klassisk Californisk old school.

Bottle: Clear, honey color, thick head and great lace. Fresh, clean, ripe, hoppy lift. No green, rubbery edge. Dry to off dry. Not sour and medium to medium high bitterness. Dense which palate and great length. Nice texture and mouthfeel for a West Coast IPA.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance The beer pours a golden orange color with a nice billowy white head of one finger height. The head has a good level of retention, slowly fading to leave some nice lace on the sides of the glass. Smell The aroma of the beer huge with a grapefruit citrus smell along with some aromas of a more sweet citrus nature of some tangerine. Along with the citrus are some other tropical fruit smells of pineapple and mango as well as some other hop aromas of a pine and earthy nature. Overall, the aroma is rather hoppy big but quite inviting. Taste The taste begins with a slightly sweet and malty flavor with the sweet being mostly of tropical fruits of tangerine and a bit of papaya but also containing caramel and honey flavors. The malty flavor begins more doughy in nature with it later transitioning to a more bready nature. Right from the start there is also a decent sum of a grapefruit hop flavor which grows slightly stronger as the taste advances to the end. With the grapefruit, other hop flavors of a pine and earthy nature come to the tongue, bringing a dank flavor to the tongue. In the end, with all the transitions in the taste that occur, one is left with a moderately citrus/dankly hopped and sweet flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel The body of the beer is on the average side for a beer of 9% abv. with a carbonation level that is on the lower side. While a slightly thicker body would have likely better accentuated the nice hoppy flavors of the brew, overall the mouthfeel was good as with the moderate body made it rather easy drinking with the lower carbonation bolstering the hop and sweet flavors nicely; really allowing them to stand out a bit more. Overall This is a very tasty Imperial. It blends citrus-sweet/hoppy flavors with some more dank hop flavors very nicely, all while creating a very easy drinking brew.

Bomber. Rich aroma with plenty of hops and a hint of caramel. Smells faintly like a barley wine. Murky dark orange with a nice mostly white head. Beautiful lace. Initial mouthfeel has plenty of strength and is a little unrefined. May be a little too cold yet. As it warms the caramel notes are even more pronounced. Very good although not the fruity, perfume IIPA I prefer.

Poured from a 22 ounce bomber. Big hop notes, grassy, resinous, pine, some citrusy notes as well, bitter. The malts take backstage, as they should, bready/biscuity. A big sticky IIPA.
