We didnít want this to be Jagged Edge on steroids. Thus rather than using the same hop combination, we chose more fruit forward hops to balance out the alcohol in the beer. The medium crystal malt adds a very subtle color and sweetness. Nugget and Millenium hops are used to bitter. Citra is a new variety to the market that has some similar properties to Simcoe but a more pleasant fruitiness; pineapple/mango aromas mixed in with pine and catís pee. Centennial brings candied orange and Amarillo adds big grapefruit. The liquid in the fermenter is dry-hopped three times- each dry hop equal in weight to the dry hop of Jagged Edge. This multi-stage dry hopping is meant to layer the different hop aromas. The beer is fermented cool to suppress fusel alcohol development, and dextrose is added to allow it to attenuate out highly, leaving very little residual sugar. The idea was to avoid that syrupy "gumsmacker" effect thatís sometimes found in Imperial IPAs. Other than barrel aged beers, this is by far our most labor intensive and expensive beer to make. Rampage fans are legion and we believe they deserve nothing less than the very best we can give them.

Thanks to shortysdude285 for sending a bottle of this my way. Served in a Captain Lawrence tulip. Pours a light apricot color with a light bit of haziness. The nose contains a good amount of tropical fruits as the base, along with a bit of citrus hops hitting after the stronger tropical notes subside. The taste hits better with a more-dominant hop presence thatís pretty well integrated and all matching up. Bit of orange in the background. Medium body with only a touch of alcohol. Pretty heavy bitterness. Nice beer all around. Glad to try. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 04-25-2011

Bomber poured into my Stone IPA glass. First beer in a week so I thought that would cause me to likely rate this higher, but alas not so. My bomber says 9% and this entry on RB says 9.5% so maybe I have an old bottle or this entry needs update. Aroma is the best part of this beer, good pine and light pungent scent. Only lightly carbonated and pours rather cloudy yellow/orange. Taste is just "meh", not bad but nothing really stands out. Almost tastes like a beginner homebrew. Thin palate, I will say for a 9% its not hott at all. I recently bought a few IPAís that Iíve never had, which are my most recent ratings, none of them were standouts at all.

Bottle. A hazy orange color with a white head. A pleasant hoppy, pine, and light floral aroma. Dry on the palate with a touch of sweetness and a strong hoppy flavor.

Pours golden orange with a large orange head. The aroma is powerfully hoppy with lots of tropical fruit and pine. The flavor is full with tropical fruit, sweet caramel, and a touch of bready malt before a big alcoholic, bitter piney finish. An above average IIPA.

Bistro DIPA fest 2011. Pours a medium orange copper- medium fluffy head. Aroma is on the grassy side, still ok citrus and pine- light caramel/toastiness. Flavor is citrus, pine sap, slight stickiness, more grass and herbal notes, some lemon zest- mostly clean in the end. Pretty good, but not great.

Clear orange golden pour. Candy malt honey nose. Piney hops and honey malt. Lingering resiny but viscous finish. Too much honey and therefore too sweet, but nice and strong.

Bomber thanks to Eric. Pours a bright copper color with a medium white head. The nose is all West Coast IIPA; sweet citrus, pine and grapefruit. The flavor is initially mostly citrus, smooth light grains, as it warmed the more defined grapefruit comes to the fore. Pretty nice. Very drinkable.
