We didnít want this to be Jagged Edge on steroids. Thus rather than using the same hop combination, we chose more fruit forward hops to balance out the alcohol in the beer. The medium crystal malt adds a very subtle color and sweetness. Nugget and Millenium hops are used to bitter. Citra is a new variety to the market that has some similar properties to Simcoe but a more pleasant fruitiness; pineapple/mango aromas mixed in with pine and catís pee. Centennial brings candied orange and Amarillo adds big grapefruit. The liquid in the fermenter is dry-hopped three times- each dry hop equal in weight to the dry hop of Jagged Edge. This multi-stage dry hopping is meant to layer the different hop aromas. The beer is fermented cool to suppress fusel alcohol development, and dextrose is added to allow it to attenuate out highly, leaving very little residual sugar. The idea was to avoid that syrupy "gumsmacker" effect thatís sometimes found in Imperial IPAs. Other than barrel aged beers, this is by far our most labor intensive and expensive beer to make. Rampage fans are legion and we believe they deserve nothing less than the very best we can give them.

Bomber. Pours a murky amber orange color with a thick foamy head that lingers nicely and leave great webbing. Aroma is musty citrus, fruit cocktail, and pine. Taste is ok. Sweet fruit juice with a mild bitterness. Pine in the finish. Odd aftertaste. Possibly an old bottle but not sure. Ok DIPA.

Bottled: unk Pours golden with a solid quilt of light cream foam. Nose is juicy fruit, a bit too much so, but if toned down a hare, and complemented with just a hint of malt would result in a really fine nose. Nonetheless, I like the nose; I get a ton of tangerine, grapefruit (sweet), orange, pineapple and subtle hints of resin. On second thought, fucken A, good nose. Bitter, not nearly as much flavor as Iíd anticipated from the nose. The bitterness is ushered past to reveal, well, body odor flavors. Some peach and weed reside therein. Medium bodied with assertive carb and an off-dry finish. This beer has sooo many qualities that could make it sincerely great. As of now, itís a decent standby. 3.5/4.5/3.5/3.5/3.5 Serving type: bottle 09-14-2012

Strong malt backbone, which I always like in a DIPA. Less bitter than I expected. The hops are mainly citrus and tropical fruits with some pine, resin, and floral notes. Not the most complex DIPA, but very enjoyable. Lacks the long, sticky, hop resin aftertaste that you would usually get from this style.

22 ounce bomber bought and drunk at the Provisions store in Orange CA. Great artwork of an angry trophy elephant. aroma of wet hops and a slight pine in the nose. Some solid hops hit you smack in the face as you first sip but finishes well. Great beer

On tap @ Tap25. Pours clear, dark orange. Smells of typical good IIPA - sweet, hoppy, citrus and pine. Tastes like grapefruit and orange rind, caramel, with a hop kick at the end. Hops, and malt compliment each other through the taste and finish. Medium carbonation and thickness. Not a bad thing to say about this - wondering why I donít load up on this local beer at 9%. Itís a great DIPA - just doesnít have anything unusual that stands out...and thereís nothing wrong with that at all.

22 oz. bottle shared in early 2012. Pours a clear amber color with a small white head. The aroma and flavor had citrus and resiny hops, caramel malt base, lightly toasted bread. Decent balance between malt and hops. Moderate bitterness to finish. Dry.

Part of the sampler at the tap room in Concord CA. Full flavored beer, nice citrus hops with a great malt backbone. Just how I like them. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Poured a hazy golden amber with a tall creamy beige head with large bubbles. There is a nice complex aroma that is floral, apricot, pine and caramel malt sweetness. The beer has a good thicker texture and a smoth and silky initial taste. A nice hops bitterness comes thru in the middle with some citrus and pine. A good amount of malt sweetness mellows out the hops with a bisquit flavor. The hops makes a nice return in the finish that lingers, but not overpowering bitter.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating. Pours moderately hazy orange amber color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big orange zest, lemon zest, grapefruit, tangerine, peach, pear, caramel, floral, pine, grass, honey, bread, toast, and floral earthiness. Nice aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus hops and caramel/bready malt notes; with good strength. Taste of orange zest, grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest, peach, floral, pine, grass, light caramel, bread, toast, light honey, and floral earthiness. Fair amount of earthy pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of citrus, citrus zest, peach, floral, grass, pine, light caramel, bread, light honey, and floral earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and complexity of citrus/floral hops with a moderate caramel/bready malt balance; and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a slick, fairly creamy, and lightly sticky mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very good imperial IPA. Very nice balance and complexity of citrus hops with moderate caramel/bready malt balance; and very smooth to sip on for the gravity. A very enjoyable offering.
