We didn’t want this to be Jagged Edge on steroids. Thus rather than using the same hop combination, we chose more fruit forward hops to balance out the alcohol in the beer. The medium crystal malt adds a very subtle color and sweetness. Nugget and Millenium hops are used to bitter. Citra is a new variety to the market that has some similar properties to Simcoe but a more pleasant fruitiness; pineapple/mango aromas mixed in with pine and cat’s pee. Centennial brings candied orange and Amarillo adds big grapefruit. The liquid in the fermenter is dry-hopped three times- each dry hop equal in weight to the dry hop of Jagged Edge. This multi-stage dry hopping is meant to layer the different hop aromas. The beer is fermented cool to suppress fusel alcohol development, and dextrose is added to allow it to attenuate out highly, leaving very little residual sugar. The idea was to avoid that syrupy "gumsmacker" effect that’s sometimes found in Imperial IPAs. Other than barrel aged beers, this is by far our most labor intensive and expensive beer to make. Rampage fans are legion and we believe they deserve nothing less than the very best we can give them.

pretty solid, moderate sweetness, moderate citrus hoppyness, pretty old school, a little boring and overplayed but it i what it is

Pours clear orange amber with a very thick and rather persistent pale buff head. Boldly hoppy aroma has a nice fruity undertone, mainly Mandarin orange plus a bit of apple. Hoppy flavor is quite fruity - orange, apple, pear, even a bit of banana. Hop component is equally woody and resiny, barely bitter; a sweet hint peeps through, as does a bit of malt. Texture is smooth and fairly firm, while tingle is not strong but persistent. Go on a rampage!

Bottle: Clear copper color and a large finger of creamy beige head. Lots of sticking lacing throughout the glass. Nose is ripe with citrus and tropical fruit, some pine. More pine comes through in the taste, lightly floral, and more of the citrus/tropical fruit. Good emphasis on and use of the hop flavors. Nicely done.

22 pours copper with a thin white head. Aroma is of sawdust, orange juice. Flavor has malty caramel, juniper, hops, grapefruit pith with a spicy herbal tea bag bitter finish. Palate is average carbonation, and slightly oily on the finish.

"Not that high in the hierarchy of double iPas but probably the best I’ve had from this brewer. Aroma and flavor both a little malt heavy for the style, but the sweetness is pretty nice. I’d like a little more in the way of somatic hops, and more of the faint tropical fruit and citrus. Not bad."

Reviewed from notes. This was poured into a snifter. The appearance was a hazy amber to brown color with a half finger white foamy head that dissipated within less than a minute. There was some light stringy lacing glossing along the sides of the glass. The smell had some light sweet citrus hops backed up by a decent sweet sticky caramel malt. The taste followed the aroma. On the palate, this one came through pretty sticky around my tongue. I say this sat about a medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. The carbonation was somewhat sharp but still constrained enough to be a good beer. Overall, I say this was a decent DIPA I could have again though probably not necessarily one I would seek out again.

Bottle. Pours a mostly clear darker amber color with a moderate off white head on there. Nose is grassy with quite a bit of hay in there. Taste is quite bitter, yet remains reasonably light. Drinkable, yet a bit too malty for me.
