Bottle from Beer Cellar online shop (April 2014). Clear pale amber/gold, medium white head, massive hop aroma/flavour/bitterness for a pilsener, grassy/pine hops, passionfruit, sweet lime, some biscuity malt hiding underneath. Really nice.

Pint on tap pours golden with good white head. Aroma is of floral hops a bit of rosehip, lime and passion fruit. Heaps of carbonation. Well balanced caramel sweetness and bitterness. Dry aftertaste and the swirl of bitter grassy hops mixes well with a fresh sweet light to medium roasted malt.

It’s ok for a sunday beer, and it is a decent domestic beer that you’ll get on taps in pubs throughout. But it’s not hopped in the way that you might equate hops to bitterness or a taste profile. It’s crisp when cold, and doesn’t offer any offence in the flavour profile. For a Lazy Sunday shooting the breeze and telling lies it’s good.

Tasted 9/2/2014. Draught at "Queens Ferry Hotel", Auckland, NZ. Poured a clear amber with a maximum one-finger white foamy head that retained very very well (for the whole glass in fact). Laced very good as curtains and rings. Carbonation very high (excellent) with small to medium sized bubbles that lasted for the whole beer. Aroma of very nice floral hops and sweet tropical fruits (passionfruit and/or peach). Taste initially semi-sweet but quickly to a nice but not over-powering bitterness. Light body. Long nice mild and soft bitterness on the tongue. Very good.

Dms bomb: creamed corn, turnips, spinach and basil from the plant matter hoppiness. Buttery BO is quite rank. Malt is buttery cookie batter and burnt popcorn with faint tobacco notes. Under-attenuated, syrupy and sweet and flabby on the tongue. Horribly vegetal / leafy with lingering note of pea mush and burnt porridge. Foul stuff. Bottle from New World in Wellington.

I’m having a hell of a time rating this. First up, it’s a nice beer, no doubt about it. My initial thought when I cracked this beer was that it was going to be yet another lager where the Nelson Sauvin dominates the conversation like some drunken loudmouth in a sports bar and drowns out all the subtler elements that make a pilsener such a nice drink when made well. Luckily, the Sauvin has had its head pulled in here and the other flavours get a good word in. The Sauvin is a strong beast and can’t be entirely contained in the finish, though, where it really builds and lingers around the sides of your mouth. In the end, it tastes good, and I necked the bottle in short order, but I think an even lighter hand with the sauvin would be better.

Bottle. Golden yellow with a fine head that lasted well. Pineapple, granadilla and straw aroma. Subtle fruit flavours well balanced with hops to give a lemon pith impression. Dry, lingering aftertaste. A very good pilsner.

From the bottle. Actually found this to crisper out of the bottle than on tap. A solid pilsner that is not overly hoppy and easy drinking.

From bottle. Almost orange-gold in colour with a fulsome white head and plenty of sparkle. Left good lace down the side of the glass. There’s a dash of passionfruit and lemon to the aroma, while while not strong, there’s nothing wrong with it. That subtle fruitiness comes out in the flavour with a gentle bitterness at first that suggest soft squishy fruit-burst lollies. Then there’s lemon pith and peel that give a good finish. Actually rather pleasant pilsner and I look forward to the next.
