4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
330mL bottle. Pours pitch black with a big mocha head. Very nice creamy chocolate aroma mixed well with a slight spicy citrus. Lots of bitter resinous citrus hops combine in the flavour with a bitter chocolate and coffee. Amazing beer.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
330 ML bottle
Black and more black. Milk chocolate head that falls to a thick collar. Good retention when worked. Some strips of lacing. Some ABV legs.
Nose is aggressive pine right off the bat. Roast, coffee, burnt rubber, and char. Aggressive nose.
Taste is pine, citrus, roast, coffee, slightly chalky and ash. Good body though. Oily and dry. Good finishing pine.
Solid BIPA but a bit too chalky to me

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from Mane Liquor. First sip this reminded me of how Temple Midnight IPA used to be. That token vanilla-esque strain down the middle of the palate with loads of piney hops. Slightly citric and sweet with a lingering ashy bitterness to finish. Quite burnt and charred as you work through it. I really enjoyed this. An aggressive BIPA

Bottle at The Scratch, Brisbane, August 2014. Black with a medium head. Aroma and taste of hops, some licorice, light roasted malt and grapefruit. The finish was fairly bitter. Quite good but with some medical notes in the finish.

330ml bottle from Scratch Bar 170714. Super tasty, these black IPA’s are starting to grow on me. Complex combination of malt and hops. The glass is well laced with a tan layer of foam.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
From a 330ml bottle on 15/6/2014. Pours a very dark brown with a big tan head. The nose features some fruity hops and some light roasty notes. This one is packed with flavour, with some IPA fruitiness (stone, citrus and a touch of tropical), along with some big resiny, piney hops. But then the black side takes hold, with big bold roasty notes, and lots of coffee. The palate borders on creamy and the carbonation is relatively lively. I thought these guys’ regular IPA had a bit of black IPA about it, but this can’t be mistaken for anything else. Has a lot of character and is quite complex. Very nice indeed.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours black with a large tan head.
Nos shows pine, toasty and biscuity malt along with soft grapefruit.
Roasty flavours but with a bit of pine and a bit hoppy bitterness. Very aggressive finish.
Carbonation is a little aggressive.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from Slowbeer (Dec 2013). Oily black, lasting creamy brown head, tropical fruit, bitter coffee, pine, liquorice, molasses, dry roast malt, dry bitter finish. Like a super-hoppy, fuller bodied version of Dead Dog Stout. Delicious.
