COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Occasional. Brewed under contract by Hambleton between 2001, when the original Black Dog brewery closed, and 2006 when it was resurrected under new ownership.
A pale bitter with a smooth, malty flavour which gives way to a hoppy aftertaste.

UPDATED: AUG 28, 2004 Black Dog has ceased brewing its own beers, which are now contracted out to Hambleton. Although the commercial description suggests it might be a dark beer, it isn't - the others it is compared to must be very pale as the colour of the Synod is a brilliant light amber/gold. Once you get over the strange burnt rubber in the aroma, this is a rather nicely balanced easy-drinking best bitter with a soft finish. Handpump, The Speaker, Westminster, London SW1
NOTE 16/08/04. The brewer's description has now changed to remove the suggestion of a darker beer. The original description was "A popular seasonal brew, which is darker than Abbey and First Out."
