JoeMcPhee (3899), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Jan 30, 2007 Tap at the brewpub. Dark brown with a light ruby tint. White head that quickly falls back to a thin lace down the side of the glass. Rye notes are present in abundance, with that sweet spiciness that I crave so much. A bit of cherry and light chocolate back up the rye and add some complexity. Creamy texture. Rye dominates the flavour as well, with it’s distinct minty-spiciness. Toasted malt and a minty hop finish. Nice brew. Thanks to beastiefan2k for dragging my carless ass out here for this. notalush (2128), Rawn-kawn-kohma, New York, USA Jan 28, 2007 Cask at the Blue Point cask fest - a german-style brew on cask? sure, why not? - dark, hazy brown with zero head on it - quite a slick mouthfeel - fairly creamy - lots of toffee and caramel sweetness - the sweetness is actually a little too much for me - the rye is quite apparent, and almost keeps the sweetness at bay - the rye combines with the malts to create an almost nutty character, which is interesting, but not enough to keep me from focusing on how overly-sweet the beer is. PilsnerPeter (1622), Flushing, New York, USA Jan 27, 2007 Deep amber pour topped by an average tan head. Appetizing aroma of buttery malts & toast. The flavor is also buttery. Toffeeish flavors with hints of honey butter toast, freshly baked bread, and a sweet, peppery finish. A sweet and creamy doppelbock, tasty. beastiefan2k (1181), Lawrence (formely NYC), Kansas, USA Jan 26, 2007 Tap at the Brew Haus, poured into tall mug. Color is dark brown, can’t see through it but a good amount of light passes through. Small head. Smells very fruity and sweet. Don’t know whats up with these fruity lagers, too much fruit for this beer. Taste is nice enough, a sweet wheat (which JoeMcphee tells me is the rye). Low bitterness, mildly carbonated, leaves a slightly sweet aftertaste.
