proc (343), Dearborn, Michigan, USA Aug 22, 2003 What a fabulous beer! I drank this at the Michigan Beer Festival and both a friend and I enjoyed it big-time. Pours out to the usual, dark as night of the style with aromas of roasted malt and yes, light maple on the nose. Taste is excellent, with those said malts coming to the forefront and balancing nicely with the hops. The maple is not overdone, nor sweet, but lends itself nicely to overall taste profile of the beer. The brewer mentioned it was a recipe handed down from his grandparents.
JoeM500 (1877), Chicago (little italy), Illinois, USA Jul 28, 2003 Very sugary nose, like a maple cookie. Roasted coffee notes at the front with a soft, sugary, mapley middle. Dry raosty coffee at the finish. Decent and not overly sweet or all maple, like some maple beers. GregClow (2369), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jul 27, 2003 MIBG Fest: Dark brown colour. BIG maple aroma with nice roasted notes. Slightly bitter roasted flavour, with not nearly as much maple as expected from the aroma.
