tgncc (340), Bellmore, New York, USA Jul 13, 2008 Sweet aroma, malty, with alcohol noted. Slight chocolate aroma as well. Dark brown appearance, with ruby red tinge. Flavor is sweet, chocolatey, malty. Sufficiently thick mouthfeel. The finish is sweet, no hop bite, slight alcohol. Enjoyable. I got this is a growler, which I’ve come to realize is not the best way to enjoy beer.
Chapel (300), Levittown, New York, USA Dec 15, 2007 Pours dark black. Aroma and flavor of mocha chocolate with some bitterness to finish. Strong bock character that one would expect from something labeled ’doppelbock’ with the alcohol warming to match. Like most things at Black Forest, it was served much too cold. Walt (2291), Chicago, Illinois, USA Mar 4, 2007 Pour is faint reddish black with a thin tan head...smell is chocolate, straight up...taste is dark and roasty chocolatey and sweet...no real alcohol flavors... Eyedrinkale (3115), Beer Town, New York, USA Feb 8, 2007 Draft @ HDG. Color is brown with some red around the edges. Aroma is chocolate malts without much smokiness at all. Flavor takes on caramel notes before the roastiness. Happy to say this beer evolved beautifully in the barrel from start to finish. A really nice treat from Big Joe Hayes! goldtwins (3747), Nesconset, New York, USA Feb 7, 2007 Tap @ Hop Devil Grill: Poured a mostly clear very dark mahogony with a beige head. Some dark fruits in the aroma with a hint of figs. Fruity flavor with just a hint of chocolate. Semi-dry finish.
