3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 punkrkr27 (903) - Berkley, Michigan, USA - APR 12, 2010
Black pour with a dense brown head. The aroma is cocoa, oatmeal, milk chocolate and brown sugar. The flavor follows through from the aroma with some mild coffee on the finish, a hint of dark fruit and overall nice balance. The body is creamy, medium-full with soft carbonation.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Pigfoot (2267) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - JUL 11, 2004
Appearance: dark brown body, reddish at the bottom, and showing a thick lush cocoa-colored head.
Nose is soft and creamy, slightly toasty, but stops there. A nutty flavor peeks out later on.
On first sip, minimal hops, and thick, lush. rich roasty malt.
Medium body, just-so texture, with a contiual, ringing nutty flavor. Sweet and tasty, with a mild fruity character interjected, and the end of the beer dominated by coffee aspects.
Very well enjoyed, though I ashamedly admit confusion during consumption. This was reviewed from an unmarked growler, and I was fooled by the nut I tasted and thought it was either a rich brown ale or a mild stout, but I didn’t think "porter." Still, despite my befuddlement, a nice beer.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 VENOM (941) - Connecticut, USA - OCT 13, 2002
1/2 gallon growler. Clear ruby hued copper. Dissipating foamy tan head. Miniscule carbonation. Red wine aroma, dark plums and hints of caramel. Mellow, cottony with a huge vinous character of plums, sweetened berries and hints of crystallized caramel. Medium thick body. Dry, yet fruity sweet. Almost no hop bitterness initially. Fairly high ABV it seems. Finishes drier with an increased German hop bite and Munich malt emphasis in the aftertaste. An interesting twist on the style, but tasty none the less.
