COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our unique pale ale isn't going to India like the original, but is brewed with a higher alcohol content and heavily hopped. 60% of the malt used was wheat giving the ber a soft fruity taste balanced with German and English hops.

Semi-hazy, copper/reddish beer, with a small, foamy head to it - the aroma is an interesting mixture of earthy wheat malt mustiness and crisp, biscuity british maltiness, with underlying fruity esters - very soft mouthfeel - the wheat character is most apparent at first, with some light nuttiness and a tiny hint of phenolic character - crisp hop flavor asserts itself very quickly, though, bringing along with it some fruity character (cherry, mostly) - an interesting experiment, but I’d like to see even more wheat malt character.

Growler filled at the brewpub. As per their chalkboard, this rendition is called Gato Gordo Wheat IPA. Pours a lightly hazed coppery red with a thin tan head that lasted through the first two sips and left light lace. Mild aroma of citrus with a few wisps of caramel. The wheat is noticeable in the flavor along with some caramel followed by some mild -moderate citrus bitterness. Well-rounded body with a fairly creamy mouthfeel. Very drinkable.

Tap at Brewpub: Cloudy orange, can’t see through it at all. Has a thin white head. Estery nose, with apparent wheat character and some orange-citrus qualities. Rich creamy texture. The body is rich and sharp simultaneously. Flavor has a nice wheat character with some mild citrus fruits, mild tropical fruit notes, but leans more toward a spicy flavor overall. Nice peppery bitter finish. Not bad.

UPDATED: FEB 22, 2008 This was listed as "Wheat I.P.A." at the brewhouse. This is a very well hopped beer. There is a good aroma of hops along with a very healthy bitterness that briefly finishes with a floral/sweet note. What really killed it for me was the fact that the hop after taste lasted for hours. Specifically I tasted it at 4 and the after taste didn’t dissipate until I ate dinner around 8:30. I like IPAs, but I like them to fade a little quicker than that.
