On tap at Black Forest, just listed as Barley wine. I wonder if it is the same beer as when it was added some years ago. Anyway, the aroma is piney hops, caramel, fruit. The appearance is a cloudy reddish brown, off-white head. The flavor is fruit, caramel, citrus, pine. The finish is pine and resin bittering. This is heavy in hops for a BW. The body is medium to medium/thick, oily mouthfeel. Not bad at all.

heavy alcohol content, i recall too much bitterness and passed at a second one.

Deep amber pour. The nose is lightly malty and a little bit toasty as well. Rich and chewy although it’s quite sweet and not at all hoppy. A touch of light cocoa and soft spice. Earthy with a touch of coffee. More strong ale than barleywine with all the toasted malts. Rich but kind of weak at the same time.

On tap at Black Forest, just listed as Barleywine. Brown-amber in color with a small off white head. Aroma of molasses, light citrus, and a touch of alcohol. Taste is alot of molasses and some toasted malts, citrus/earthy hops, more malty than hoppy. Full bodied, some alcohol in the finish. Pretty nice.

Tap at the Brewpub. Served in a 12 oz goblet - $7. Pours a very dark ruby/amber- almost brown with a nice sticky beige head and good lace. Aroma is sticky sweet- toffee, loads of strong caramel- from deep roasted crystal malts and lightly hoppy. Some light alcohol and fruity esters come about as it warms. Sweet flavor upfront with candied fruits, plum and raisin, more caramel, molasses, and light tobacco hints. FInishes off with a nice clean bitterness, and seems as though Joe may have lagered this one like many of his other ales to give it that clean taste. Towards the end, as it warmed, I really got into this beer more and more and was tempted to get a growler- but opted not to $28 ($24 for the refill, but I forgot my growler). Very nice barleywine- has a light american hop character to it, but tends to be on the malty and sweet side.
