1.5 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 4/20 Tessic (631) - Brantford, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 26, 2010
This lager poured a crystal clear, light yellow colour with a really fast dissipating, bright white head. to the nose there are scents of corn, a little skunk, sour ??? First taste was like water. "East coast, White Bread muck" to be exact. Light malt flavour followed by a nice metallic taste.... do I really need to say more.

I was really excited to find this at Maxwell’s Plum in Halifax. A Newfoundland classic! Golden colour. Light, but slightly malty, grainy aroma. Slightly petrol-like notes in the palate, with vague leafy notes. A little thicker than your average macro but still a macro. I really wanted to like it, but like cod lips, seal flippers and other Newfoundland delicacies I really couldn’t get into it that much.

My Newfie friends know how to party, and when they do, black horse is absent. I get strong adjunct and very modest malt or hop flavors. If you have to drink this stuff, serve it ice cold -the flavors that are there can safely be missed. Better yet, party like the Newfies and drink rum.

Brother brought it back from Newfoundland for me, so I gotta give it an extra point or two for sentimental reasons. Very little nose, appearance, pour, head all like every other bland lager. Taste, well... what little is there isn’t *horrible* but still lacks even the most basic qualities that make it a beer. I wish I could say more, but well, there’s not much else to say. Blegh.

A real macro lager. Pale fizzy yellow. A bit of dot lace on a huge white head of malt foam. Horrible smell, wafting throughout office like I was a homeless person. I may have to toss this glass. Dry lower than average mouthfeel. Corny taste. Dry aftertaste. Four ounces was enough to drink. Thanks though anyways Mark for the beers from Newfoundland.

Blah. Some rotten malt flavors. This is not really drinkable. It should have stayed in Canada.

Everything that is bad about beer. I could not finish it. Newfoundland has a local microbrewery that make great beer so avoid Black Horse.
