Smokey is a dog not quite right in the head, some might even say insane. One of her most beloved activities is digging a deep hole in the ground and barking into it for hours on end. We arenít quite sure what sheís looking for, but we suspect she is looking to take on the Smoke Monster. If anyone could defeat the Smoke Monster it would be Smokey, so we offer you Smoked Monster in recognition of her timeless efforts.

22 oz. bottle, consumed on 7-2-15. Pours a very dark amber to medium brown with a moderate amount of pleasing taupe head. Quite hazy liquid. Looks very good. Lightly smoky aroma. Scents of campfire, plum, caramel, and toast. Pleasant but simplistic smell. Sweet, malty, fruity, juicy taste features a smoky finish. Caramel and apricot flavors. Too sweet for my tastes, and I wish it were smokier, but the dry wood smoke that is present is nice. Medium body. Smooth in the palate. Some liveliness. Ordinary palate effects. Overall, the smoke itself is pleasant, but there isnít enough of it, and the sweet, fruity, malty undertones arenít a good match for the smoke. For the record, I love a good rauchbier or other smoke beer; this is a mediocre to subpar one.

Pours a deep dark dark brown with a thin tan head. Smell of smoke but also hints of chocolate and burnt malts, Not as smoky as I was expecting it to be, Reminds ne a lot like a smoked porter. Thick, and very smoky in the mouth, this was expected. As it warms the different smells you get in the aroma start to come out in the flavors. I bought this beer thinking it would be like eating cold charred embers out of a fire pit, but I admit I am pleasantly surprised by the thickness and flavor of this beer.

Tap at Sugar Maple. Chunky brown=black body, thin steady head. A big, brutal, ugly, smoked beer. Oily, excess crystal malt and a big burnt smoke edge. Ugly. Harsh. One of the worst Smoked beers Iíve ever had. Not meant for human consumption.

Picked up a 22-oz bomber at Three Cellars in Franklin, Wisconsin. Pours a clear light brown colored brew with an average sized beige head that quickly dissipates to a thin ring and spotty lacing. Aroma of smoked beef jerky, a hint of smoked cherry wood, tart brown bruin essence, some white pepper and floral hops. Taste is not a smoky as the aroma, medium bodied with flavors of smoked Slim Jimís beef sticks, caramel malt, some mild floral hops and a touch of white pepper. Finish is semi-sweet with a mild hop tartness and a light smoked caramel malt aftertaste.

Murky brown pour. Nose is charcoal bbq with fruity malt and that plastic smell you get from some smoke beers. Flavor is moderate charry smoke with tart fruit and toasted malt. Somewhat acidic, slightly detracting. Creamy mouthfeel.

Bomber. Poured clear, garnety-brown with a nice cap of toasted beige head. The aroma picked up a lot of campfire smoke along with caramel and toffee malts.. touches of black pepper and rye too.. too much emphasis on the smoke, but I really dug it. The flavor found similar stuff.. caramel and lesser bready notes at the core, with thick campfire smoke and some peppery alcohol laced throughout.. finished sweet, smoky, and slightly tangy, leaving some belly warmth. Medium-bodied with low-ish carbonation on the palate.. tanginess from the acidic smoke character actually cut through the sweetness well.. interesting brew.

Skyview Tasting, 2/23/13. A smoked beer. Light on the aroma, it could use more here. Smoked malt flavor, which makes the flavor much more interesting than the aroma. Dry finish.

On tap at Burnhearts. Dark brown with a large creamy tan head leaving a ring of lace. Aroma of sweet smoked meats, caramel and light fruit. Taste is sweet and smoky with light chocolate, mild fruit and some toffee. Tasty and not overpoweringly smoked like some rauch beers.
