2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 Ughsmash (6668) - Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA - AUG 19, 2012Bottled. Poured deeper brown with a dense, smoked beige head. The aroma picked up nutty notes, chocolate, and maple syrup, with sour, funky, off-notes around.. I enjoyed the malt bill, but it smelled like it was possibly infected. The flavor found sweet, sticky maple at the core, with chocolates and nutty notes laced throughout.. unfortunately, soured grains and vinegar showed up on all facets of the drink.. finished sour with tasty malts trying to come through. Medium-plus bodied with high carbonation on the palate.. sourness very effectively kept this from having a smooth or enjoyable flow through the palate.. I’ll try again if I find it fresh on tap.

Split bomber with sherm1016...thanks! Pours a rich, clear brown with a thin head. Nose is maple and caramel...a little boozy for a brown...didn’t notice the 8% until later...you get hints of the booze in this...overall good but not great

22oz bottle from Downer Wine and Spirits, split with Dwm1034. Pours a deep brown color with a thin tan head. Aroma is sweet, brown sugar, maple syrup, a little bit of alcohol. Just a little heavy on the palate with soft carbonation. Flavor is sweet, malty, toast, nutty, some alcohol heat, a little vanilla, a touch of maple syrup, with some strange vegetal taste on the finish. Something didn’t work too well for me on this one. Not horrible, but just a little off.

Murky mahogany with a medium tan head that fades away slowly. Aroma of nuts, maple, funk and malt. Taste is a bit strange with maple, nuts, malt and mild off-flavors.

Medium sized tan head, good retention and fair lacing. Clear brown, ruby hued ale. Nose of caramel, light maple and roast, somewhat worty. Body is medium, lightly oily, soft carbonation. Mild flavors. Cararmel, maple, earthy leafy notes and a little nuttyness, brown malt notes, grain. Dry finish, light bitterness. Not bad. Props to MOTORTODDHEAD for the bottle!

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Skyview (5023) - Papoose Jct, Minnesota, USA - JUN 21, 2010
Sampled on draught at the 2010 Great Northern Beer Festival in Eagle River, Wisconsin. Pours a semi-hazy brownish amber colored brew with a thick beige head that slowly disappears to a cream top. Aroma of roasted English malt, floral hops, some roasted nuts and a hint of citrus. Taste is malty, a touch sweeter than the Harold the Red, with flavors of roasted nuts, dark pitted fruit and some citrus. Finish is well balanced. A quick mild bitterness and then a brown malt and chocolate aftertaste. Solid and decent.
