4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 drpimento (1936) - La Crosse, Wisconsin, USA - NOV 10, 2012Wow, great gift from from friend Nat!! Poured at a good temperature with a mammoth, fluffy, thick, creamy, very slow to settle, cream-colored head with loads of frothy lace. Color is a clear, dark amber with a couple of slow tiny bubble trails. Aroma is hop, resin, malt, caramel, citrus. Flavor’s like nose, hop stands out with the resin, citrus, and malt prominant; bitter up front with a little sweet in back, mild carbonic tang. There’s also a sort of mediciney flavor that grows on me. Mouth is full, but carbonation is on the soft side. Finish is like flavor and surprisingly of average length for as full flavored as this is.

Bottle from Neal - thanks! Pours a slightly murkey copper color with a thin froth of white foam. Aroma is heavy and pungent resinous pine with sharp, herbal spruce, and some sweeter malt notes in the finish. Taste is dominated by the spruce but it compliments nicely with the heavy pine and hop bitterness. There is some malt sweetness in the second half of the beer but it’s not entirely unwelcome as it provides a contrast to the huge spruce and pine flavors. Mouthfeel is slightly coating. I liked this beer - like drinking a hopped pine tree.

Bomber shared with SHERM1016.....THANKS!! Says it’s brewed with spruce tips...must be...smells like a Christmas tree! Hoppy nose...pours a clear orange with thin white head...minimal lacing. Definite hoppy / bitter taste upfront. Spruce / piney nose and flavor upfront is interesting...but gets old. A very good IIPA but kinda glad I only have the one....this will be an ’on occasion’ beer...tasty

22oz bottle, from Downer Wine and Spirits, split with dwm1034. Pours a dark amber color with a white head and some lacing. Aroma is spruce, pine, some floral hops. Medium on the palate with creamy carbonation. Flavor is bitter, spruce, some bready malty, but mostly hops, pine, floral, plenty of spruce, with a minty, wintergreen finish. Interesting. It’s like a Christmas tree in a glass.

Tap at Sugar Maple. Served in a snifter. Orange brown with a steady off-white head. A pretty decent IIPA, well balanced between the clean golden malt and the piny orange citrus tones. Not overwhelming, some slight buttery undertones. but the hops cover it up well. Faint herbal cinnamon, honey. Flowery. Decent, but highly forgettable. Green tea in the finish.

12 ounce bottle from Ghostface as a wedding present, thanks Neal! Poured an amber color with aromas of pine, citrus, spruce, and some light acertine. Flavors are light citrus and huge spruce. Not as much booze as one thinls based on the label and arroma, soild IPA.

As advertised, piney off the charts. The nose is really floral but the pine really hangs around; although after a couple sips it starts to fade. Big fan of the Avery Maharaja and this beer is reminiscent.

12oz bottle from Three Cellars. Pours hazed copper with white head. Aromas of citrus, caramel, and ton of spruce. Flavors of citrusy hops and a ton of spruce and some caramel malts. This is a nice take on a spruce beer. Could not drink a ton of this, but found it to be enjoyable.
