4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Wow, great gift from from friend Nat!! Poured at a good temperature with a mammoth, fluffy, thick, creamy, very slow to settle, cream-colored head with loads of frothy lace. Color is a clear, dark amber with a couple of slow tiny bubble trails. Aroma is hop, resin, malt, caramel, citrus. Flavor’s like nose, hop stands out with the resin, citrus, and malt prominant; bitter up front with a little sweet in back, mild carbonic tang. There’s also a sort of mediciney flavor that grows on me. Mouth is full, but carbonation is on the soft side. Finish is like flavor and surprisingly of average length for as full flavored as this is.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at a downtown place trying to get WiFi after being paged at work out of a Bucks game (and one they played well in). Pours a golden orange with a foamy white head leaving very nice circular lacing. Aroma has heavy pine plus fresh cut grass and some citrus. Taste is of strongly spicy pine and resin and grapefruit, with a solid sweet caramel background. Medium bodied and a bit sticky. Finishes spicy/bitter, and quite long in that combination. Balance, not really. Memorable is more likely.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Hazy amber in color. Amazing aroma of a winter forest. Seriously, pine, lavender, and floral hops abound. Despite the piney aroma, it is actually well balanced, lots of hop aroma and flavor, but the sweet candied malt keeps it from being too bitter. The taste is very floral and candied fruit, juniper, and finally caramel. Full bodied with a piney, sticky finish. This is a very good and different double ipa. A refreshing change of pace from from your typical hop bomb. The hops are there in spades, but it is still drinkable. I was genuinely surprised by this beer. Please try if you get the chance.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle: Dirty amber, thin to moderate frothy white head, fairly nice lacing. Uh oh, very artificial floral nose, spruce and a general strong aroma of trees. Comes across as a little urinal cake, moreso on the tongue. Its clean, very spruce trip/tree like, but the strong shrubby herbal/floral urinal cake I could do without. Body and mouthfeel are moderate to full. Seems very well crafted, smooth, clean, but the over abundance of spruce and/or associated spices make me think of a very clean urinal. Sweet and spicy finish, shrubby, a bit earthy, along with biting hops and spruce tips. There really is a lot going on, so I will give them that. I guess I am just sensitive to urinal cakes?

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a hazy orange/amber with a thick and creamy off white head. Aroma has nice spruce and pine with caramely malts. Flavor is very sprucey!! Thankfully the caramel malts are lost by the intense spruce...very authentic spruce. Mouthfeel is medium and the finish is very dry and piney.

On tap @ the Über Tap Room in the Wisconsin Cheese Shop, Milwaukee.medium gold leaving thick sheets of lace. Incredible aromatics, lavender, rosemary, spruce tips, resin, lightly earthy, pungent, deep. The herbal intense coniferousness really appealed to me here.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bomber, poured blind (a curveball brought by a friend to assist with my cicerone training). Clear amber-orange, rather generous head. Nose is hops and Pine Sol, a little phenolic, slight citrus. Whoa...whoa. I like pine, but man, this like drinking furniture cleaner. Hot for the strength. Interesting, and I mean that, but not my cup o’ tea.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
22oz bottle thanks to Wrye! Pours a deep clear golden with very little head that dissipates almost instantly. Aroma is a little faded at this point as the bomber isn’t uber fresh but very nice still. Slight pine and malt. Taste is Christmas tree through and through! Awesome! I’d love to get more hops out of this as at this point I think the spruce covers some faded hops. Citrus and dry finish. Light on the front of the tongue but the pine needles really come in and take over. If you don’t like pine/spruce/Christmas, this will not be your cup o’ tea.

2.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Draft at Sugar Maple. Burnt umber. Quite the fruity nose ... wow, definitely a big, piney tree aroma. This drinks like you’re chewing on a Christmas tree or your leather sofa. Definitely an acquired taste and gotta like the spruce ... very aggressive on the palate. (#5162, 7/6/2013)

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle from Neal - thanks! Pours a slightly murkey copper color with a thin froth of white foam. Aroma is heavy and pungent resinous pine with sharp, herbal spruce, and some sweeter malt notes in the finish. Taste is dominated by the spruce but it compliments nicely with the heavy pine and hop bitterness. There is some malt sweetness in the second half of the beer but it’s not entirely unwelcome as it provides a contrast to the huge spruce and pine flavors. Mouthfeel is slightly coating. I liked this beer - like drinking a hopped pine tree.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bomber shared with SHERM1016.....THANKS!! Says it’s brewed with spruce tips...must be...smells like a Christmas tree! Hoppy nose...pours a clear orange with thin white head...minimal lacing. Definite hoppy / bitter taste upfront. Spruce / piney nose and flavor upfront is interesting...but gets old. A very good IIPA but kinda glad I only have the one....this will be an ’on occasion’ beer...tasty
