3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle 466 from 1272, from Rudat, Dortmund
The color is very dark, not completely black; essentially no head. Mild aroma of roasted malt with light biscuity touch , and very light earthy impression. Good caramel flavor, lean, dryish, with hints of coffee; correct bitterness; a bit astringent in the end. Not much barrel in it, maybe just a very light vinous touch.
Very nice and balanced.

Tasting at Bruce’s new pad. Thanks to Paul for this tasty Scottish treat. Hazy dark brown beer with a small pale tan head. Light semi dry palate. Lightly tangy dark malt with a little cream and mildly bitter dark chocolate. Little wood. Whisper of fruity sherry. Light dry finish with a woody bitter linger.

Bottle #404/1272, picked up at Black Isle Brewery. It pours darkest brown with a thick light tan head. The nose is soft roast, earth, vanilla, juicy berry, jam and sherry. The taste is mellow roast, toast, sherry, plum, berry, red grape, mild bitterness, cocoa and a touch of acidity with a dry finish. Medium+ body and fine carbonation. Interesting and good depth to it. Nice work!

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottled. Neqr black, beige head. Rich aroma of pear and red currant with some licorice and peppery heat behind. Mid sweet with medium-full body and rounded mouthfeel. Black currant and coffee, subtle sherry oak and quality chocolate. Mild peppery warmth in the finish. Filled with flavours - confusing and complex, arousingly different.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle cheers to Paul. Nose is appealling in this one. Light and balanced spice, berries, milk chocolate, cream, figs. Creme caramel like in the taste with milk chocolate, woody underneath and slightly burnt. Some piney hops coming through with dried currants and dates. Slightly nutty. A fine beer

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle #1060 of 1272. Cheers, James! Pours a dark brown with a fluffy beige head that disappears quickly. Aroma is sherry and not much else, having the hardest time to pick up the base beer. Perhaps the slightest hint of coffee and yeast. Taste is boozy sherry on the onset, followed by somewhat astringent, ashy bitterness. Aftertaste is mostly alcoholic. Mouthfeel is too thin to have any hopes of standing up to the booze. Adding to the unpleasantness of the mouthfeel is the sharp carbonation. Overall: a sipper and definitely not bad, but lacks refinement. Would have been greatly benefited from less extensive treatment on the sherry cask.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
330ml bottle [#782 of 1272]. Pitch black colour with late awakening, average, creamy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, beige head. Very first impression is: "Almost as hoppy as a Black IPA". - The impression doesn’t keep up. Dark malty aroma with a salty touch of liquorice, evaporating piney hop notes, cautious hints of leather and wood. Taste is dark malty, minimally sweet, minimally dry and tart, very cautious hints of treacle, some liquorice, wood and leather; soft carbonation, minimally sticky palate, dry to bitter finish. Brings together some well-known and typical, well matching Impy Stout flavours. Rather light for its style. Maybe that’s the reason for the impression, that these normally matching and merging flavours remain somehow detached and uncombined. Not bad though.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
fruitige geur. Niet echt zwaar maar wel fris. Normale schuim. Blijft redelijk lang staan.
Een beetje te dun en vloeibaar voor Imperial stout. Iets te veel alcohol smaak. Doordat hij niet heel veel body heeft gaat dit storen. Bittere koffie. Iets te bitter naar mijn smaak.
