3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: NOV 13, 2011 Keg at Cloisters, Black Isle tap takeover! Dark brown, thin tan head that fades with light lacing. Nose is big roast malt with just a hint of capsicum. Palate is big roast malt, some cocoa, light but noticeable chilli in the back of the mouth. Nicely balanced, but not as good as the coffee version in my opinion.

Draft @ Bruadar Bar. Black colour, thin off-white head. Nose is sour, yeasty and fruity. Not very roasty. Flavour is slight roastiness, coffee, salty, moderate chili bite. Fairly carbonated. Spicy finish.

On tap @ Brauadar. Aroma of chilli milk & malts. Almost black colour, good head. Chilli pepper flavour. A bit watery. Average.

[keg at Cloisters, Edinburgh] Black pour from the keg, very thin head. Roasty nose with plenty of chilli in evidence. On the taste, more peppery at first before the chilli arrives at the end. As the beer warms from the pour, the chilli becomes far more prominent, leading to a slight burn on the finish. Itís not a one-trick pony as the malt complements the spiciness quite well

On keg at the Black Isle Tap Takeover at Cloisters. Pours a very dark brown colour with a thick light tan head. Quite an upfront chilli nose with coffee and roasty malt. Similar flavours with moderate carbonation and light CO2 prickle. A bit fizzy for me too with a foamy mouth-feel. Lingering roasty malt and chilli flavours.
