A true pale ale. The full body and rich gold colour comes from a blend of wheat, pale ale and crystal malts. It’s floral and lime citrus nose is created by the extensive use of carefully selected New World aroma hops. The final stage of dry hopping then produces a rich berry flavour for a big refreshing, satisfying brew.

26-NOV-2011, bottle @home, courtesy of Henrik. Cloudy orange, low beige head. Fruity, ripe fruits. Hoppy but more in an english fruity way rather than in a very bitter way. A bit flat. Fine sweet IPA:

UPDATED: SEP 25, 2012 Aroma: Clean aroma of fruity hops and cut grass.

Appearance: Clear amber body. Medium carbonation. Small, off-white head that gradually fades but leaves a reasonable amount of lacing.

Taste: Bitter grapefruit and peach flavours. Very hoppy and slightly peppery.

Palate: Medium body with a slick, oily texture. Average carbonation.

Overall: A delicious, fruity pale ale. In my opinion, one of Scotland’s best, most underrated beers. Reminds me of a more tangy, spicy version of the brilliant Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. In my experience, it’s tastier in keg than in bottle.

Bottle, 5.6%. Dusty aroma, some orangey hops. Cloudy orange colour, a bit dirty looking with bubbles sticking to the (clean) glass. Small stable frothy chalk white head. The flavour starts off with a good clean bitterness. Fruity malt and hop notes, citric and refreshing. Quite flavourful for a Scottish beer.

[keg at Cloisters, Edinburgh] Not tried Goldeneye on keg before, realised I hadn’t actually rated it at all. Pale amber pour, with a thin off-white head. Sweet, malty nose once the beer has warmed a little. Plenty of fruit in evidence on the nose, as well. Citrus and pine on the flavour, before the malt arrives – good balance, and a good, lingering finish [09112011]

Bottle from Deeside Drink Emporium, Banchory. It pours golden yellow, with a thin white head. The nose is sulphur, sweet malt, orange citrus fruit, honey, pear and apple. The taste is sweet orange, tangy marmalade, peach, nectarine, sulphur, honey, alcohol warmth, dough and hay, with a dry finish. Medium body, moderate carbonation and foamy mouth-feel. Not bad.

0.33l bottle from Systembolaget Passagen, Stockholm. This one pours a clouded copperish body with a small fading big bubbly and sidesticking just off-white head. The first thing I get in the aroma is lots of chocolate! Strange thing to put in a pale ale. Also nice fruity tones, caramel, ripe berries and lots of sweet malts. Nice aroma. Average carbonated with a rich and surprisingly thick and almost oily mouthfeel. Sweet and malty flavors quite elegantly balanced by fruity and dry hops. Hints of strawberries and peaches. Ends light dry. This one impressed me. A good APA!

Clear darkish golden with a large, staying, creamy, white head. Pleasant grassy hops aroma, light citric, grapefruit and some sweet green apple juice. Mild doughy malts. Medium carbonation, fine dry and light creamy mouthfeel. Flavour has good dryness, some dusty doughy malts, light oat, good grapefruity hops, light apple. Long, lingering, nicely dry finish. A very nice pale ale.
