Bottle, courtesy of TM, 27/11/14. Pours black with a decent, latte-colored head. Aroma is quite a lot of oat and roast, some coffee. Taste is somewhat roasty, quite a lot of dry coffee. Dry. Fairly light, no imperial stout-like qualities here really.

330ml bottle: BBD end of 09-2016. Poured into a Gordons thistle shaped glass at home 11-2014. Jet black with a full, lasting beige head, good lacing. The nose was malty with some chocolate, liquorice, vanilla, coffee notes all bundled together. The taste was semi-sweet initially, with the same flavours the aroma suggested, mid-sip it became a little tartier, with dark berry like hints coming through the sweetness. Full bodied and interesting.

Pitch black, beige head, leaves some lacing. On the nose: chocolate, chocolate milk, licorice, cinnamon, fudge, caramel, vanilla, some coffee, bit fruity, nice. Taste is sweet milk chocolate, coffee, vanilla, red berries with a slight sourish tang, nice. Sweet aftertaste, full body.

500 ml bottle into snifter, best before 1/2016. Pours nearly pitch black color with a 1-2 finger dense light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roasted malt, toasted oats, dark bread, light char, light licorice, herbal, and roasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great complexity and balance of roasted malts, oats, and light earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roasted malt, toasted oats, dark bread, light char, light licorice, herbal, and roasted earthiness. Good amount of roasted coffee bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roast, toasted oats, dark bread, light char, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity and balance of roasted malts, oats, and light earthy hop flavors; with a great roasted bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth, moderately creamy, and lightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an awesome export stout style! All around great complexity, balance, and robustness of roasted malts, oats, and light earthy hop flavors; and very smooth to sip on. A highly enjoyable offering.

Bottle at Jake’s Place. Black body with a thick beige head. Excellent lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate and dirt. Flavour of milk chocolate, Marmite, earth, black cherry and blueberry. Full body with a smooth, creamy texture. Light fizz. This is a soft, delicious beer that hides the 7.0% ABV very well. I think this would be lovely on cask. One of Black Isle’s finest.

Bottle at home. Black pour, thin off-white to tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, dark fruits, licorice, caramel and slightly spicy. Flavor is quite sweet licorice with fruits. Slightly thin, but well balanced and well drinkable. Low carbonation.

Bottle from Bierzwerg!
Pours deep black with flat off-white head. Smell has rich roasted malts chocolate and lots of burnt coffee. Starts with lots of roasted malts, slight sweet, chocolatey. The middle part has much strong burnt coffee notes. Goes into a coffee’ish finish with sweet roasted malts and some toffee.
