Dark with a tan head, aroma is all chocolate and liquorice, the taste is more of the same with bitter chocolate and roast. This is a fantastic beer that only needs a little more of a punch for a more rounded mouth-feel in order to make it a truly brilliant beer. Drunk with bitter chocolate and was sensational.

Bottle at Jake’s Place. Black body with a thick beige head. Excellent lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate and dirt. Flavour of milk chocolate, Marmite, earth, black cherry and blueberry. Full body with a smooth, creamy texture. Light fizz. This is a soft, delicious beer that hides the 7.0% ABV very well. I think this would be lovely on cask. One of Black Isle’s finest.

Bottle at home. Black pour, thin off-white to tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, dark fruits, licorice, caramel and slightly spicy. Flavor is quite sweet licorice with fruits. Slightly thin, but well balanced and well drinkable. Low carbonation.

Bottle from Bierzwerg!
Pours deep black with flat off-white head. Smell has rich roasted malts chocolate and lots of burnt coffee. Starts with lots of roasted malts, slight sweet, chocolatey. The middle part has much strong burnt coffee notes. Goes into a coffee’ish finish with sweet roasted malts and some toffee.

Bottle. Strong smell of chocolate and malt, a little bit bitter, strong smell of roasted malt. The small pale beige creamy head disappears fast, the body is black. A nice bitter taste, malty, dark chocolate, coffee. The body is medium strong, creamy and a little bit dry with a rather lively carbonation.

Bottle @ weekly tasting shared with Dutchdrebus and Joes. Very dark brown color, medium sized tan to light brown head. Smell and taste malts, some roast, bitter. Yeah I know, quite obvious, but that’s it. A decent stout, but I’m not thrilled.

Bottle from Malt & Vine. Pours very dark brown with a creamy tan head. Aroma of dark malt, coffee and arguably anise. Med body. Flavor is anise/coffee with a lot of smooth dark malt. More anise than anticipated. It’s pretty tasty stuff!

Bottle. Poured black in color with a frothy tan head. Lots of coffee, licorice and chocolate in aroma. Also some peppery spices. Roasted coffee and slightly burnt malts in taste. Slighty bitter hoppy finish. It’s on the thin side for a Imp. Stout.

(Tasting session #3 with Frank) BB 10/15. Lot : 356. Liquide très brun et coiffe assez généreuse et collante. Le nez m’étonne. C’est brassé où ce truc? En Écosse me dit Frank. Ah bon!
