COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottled, Pasteurised.
An amber colored ale, Black Isle Red Kite is brewed using only the highest quality Maris Otter pale and crystal malts for flavor and body. Challenger hops for bittering with the late addition of Styrian Goldings creates a balance of quenching citrus and malt, and a classic aromatic finish to this refreshing ale. This beer is bright amber with a toasted nut flavor and powerful orange fruit aroma.

Bottle from Matkroken Natland, Bergen. Pours a clear deep coppery-amber body with a medium creamy off-white head of considerable longevity. Nose is mild citric tones, biscuits, caramel and hints of vanilla. Taste is mellow red fruits, citric notes, biscuits, caramel and hints of bitter grass in the finish. Medium body, soft to medium carbonation. A very drinkable and balanced bitter with quite a bit of taste to it as well.

Bottle pour@4th Festival der Bierkulturen Köln 25/05/2013. Neutral earthy on the nose, some liquorice maybe. Caramel, nice cream, roast, herbal hop crispness. Sherry dryness and incipient tang. Pleasant as a mix of Bitter/amber/red ale, but not a standout in any way.

The head is robust, the body orange-brown and clear. It smells mild, less hoppy, a bit roasty. The taste is mild, special grain or spieces, a bit hoppy. 11/10/10/9/11/10

9,8,7,8,11,8 - 8,10 - 29/3/13

Deep, hazy reddish amber, 2 finger creamy airy head is off-white and dissipates too fast but leaves bit lacing. Caramel mating is bit nutty, biscuit, citrus hoppiness, fresh and lite aroma. Medium body, slightly thick feel, average carbonation, dry with little bitterness and fruitiness balancing, aromatic finish. Nicely balanced with some nuances and ok flavors, works well.

Bottle (500ml from Tesco, £1.70):
A strange caramel malt aroma and some something similar to vegetable adjuncts along with some light toffee but the main aroma was something like a smoky bitterness.
A rich amber colour with tinges of red and a large, three fingers sized head on top that is foamy looking and leaves some nice lacing. Retention is pretty good too with very little movement at all and the body is a clear one.
Mainly malts, some sweet and some earthy with a bit of a nutty character and a little biscuit too. It tasted pretty ordinary really with a little citrus and some nondescript fruits but that was about it and there was too much bitterness at the end for me.
Medium bodied with mild carbonation and a slightly watery feel around the middle before finishing off dry. It was an odd beer if nothing else.

This was kind of an odd one in that it got a lot better as I worked my way down it but it still wasn’t a great beer really. I thought the smell was pretty bad although it did look pretty good. The main thing though, the taste was lacking a lot to begin before improving slightly about half way down but it was a case of too little too late.
