Bottle from Appellation Wines. Sweet chocolate toffee malt aroma. Very dark brown colour, big foamy head, lively carbonation. Sweet chocolate malt flavour, quite smooth. Not my favourite type of beer but not a bad example.

750ml bottle from the Black Isle Brewery. A massive gusher!! A steady jet of tan foam about 10cm high ensured adequate kitchen coverage! Poured a beautiful deep ruby colour with a light tan head that settled fairly quickly. Nice toffee, treacle, caramel and barley aroma. Similar flavours with alcohol fairly present and a nice plum and raisin finish. Highly carbonated with a foamy mouth-feel and a fair CO2 prickle. Not bad at all, one of the better Black Isle beers.

Bottle at home. Very deep amber, gorgeous red highlights. Toasty spiced nose, some nice dark berries. Rich and tasty, with plenty of fruity malts. Some spice. Short sticky aftertaste. I like this a lot.

750ml bottle. Dark brown with lovely red hue. No head though. The nose has malt, honey, raisins and sultanas which are all nicely cleaned by gentle hops on the end. The taste has more gentle malt and sultanas. The palate has a decent body, a fairly creamy texture and a nice refreshing finish. Overall, this is a lovely beer.

amber colour, clear w/ steady bubbles can’t get much on nose thin/med body w/ some carbonation tastes like a chocolate stout decent but nothing spectacular

[750ml bottle, Appellation Wines, Edinburgh] Dark brown pour with a furious carbonation – big frothy head that reduces pretty quickly so it can be topped up. Aromas of sweet malts and some spices, brown sugar. Not so much alcohol from the bottle pour. On the palate, dark roasty maltyness with a touch of fruity hops and a bit of sweetness. Again, not much alcohol. Really rather nice [18122010]

Dark redbrownish color. Nice head. Good hoppy biitter taste with hint of roasted malt and with mild hoppy finish.

cask ... gravity at Cloisters ... nice ruby red ... sweet toffee cherry malts ... juicy and sweet ... dark berried frutis ... light hop ... some gentle spice... so bummed out that i fell i’ll and wasnt able to hit this again when it actually came on.

UPDATED: FEB 7, 2010 Dear friends I’ll rate my bottles when I’m over in Scotland with the bottles :-). Can be ordered from the brewerys homepage! live from Scotland - package arrived and no one had touched them! Bottle, 2009-12-20, Uddingston AR: Burned suger, malt AP: Dark brown/redish tone, 1 cm high rocky head F: a bit bitter to start with but a nice mild finish, roasted malt, great bitterness, not so much of a christmas ale here - i.e not a good x-mass ale! Brought one over to Sweden for the Scotish tasting 2010-02-10! A bit dangeraous - do they usually only last for a couple weeks. Re rated it to 3,8 so avarage would be 3,5!
