Bottled. The aroma has light pepper, some bacon, toffee malts. Dark brown coloured beer with a thin, off-white head. The taste is slightly bitter, sweet, has caramel malts, slight roast, peppers. Not too overpowering. ok.

330ml bottle. Pours black with a quick lively head. Aroma of burnt wood, heavily toasted malts, slight tinge of black cherries. Agree with previous comments, not heavy on the ’red hot chili’ front, but certainly noticeable as it travels down the old tubes. Burnt wood lingers at the back of the tongue, a sticky finish. Good quality and definitely a worthwhile experiment.

Bottle shared by Evin and the Kernel crew, Cheers! Hazy dark brown beer, little pale tan head. Toffeeish dark malt. Very mild chilli, nothing red hot here! Semi dry finish. Not bad but the chilli could be a little bolder without getting silly!

stravale (574) - Scottish Borders, SCOTLAND - JAN 5, 2012
Bottle direct from the Black Isle Brewery
Black....frothy tan head.....dissipates to thin layer
Aroma - Dark rich malts, chilli is noticeable but subtle - more heat on then nose than vegetal pepper aroma
Taste if of dark rich malts... liquorice...hint of roasted malt..slight earthiness..hint of smoke...chillies not overdone - again bit of heat with pepper vegetal notes
Palate - Moderate carb...full bodied...texture sticky and quite viscous...chilli heat in the middle....carbonation helps move the flavout around. Finish - bit over dry...same as main flavour...more chilli heat but still subtle...doesn’t linger too long.
Overall - I’m glad I tried this - the chilli is not overpowering like some other chilli beers. But it gets cloying on the palate after a while as the carbonation drops in the mouth, and is over dry. Still, a worthwhile experiment.

Bottle. Dark brown to black with white head. Slim to no chilli flavour. You know it was there after you drink it.

Bottle. Not much chilli in this bad boy, really just an average beer dressed up as some fancy shizzle.

Stephanos (863) - NORTHERN IRELAND - DEC 19, 2011
Bottle 187 of 864 at home. Fluffy tan head on a ruby tinged black beer. Sweet aroma with golden syrup, a bit of smoke and black pepper. Sweet malt followed by an oily chilli with milk chocolate, a hint of coffee and mustard with an escalating chili warmth in the finish. A bit overcarbonated and thin in body.

Bottle from DantheMan, thanks! Deep dark brown color. Malty roast and some subtle chili notes in the nose. Medium to full bodied. Malty sweetish roasty flavor with some chili in the background. Some yeasty notes. Licorice. Long aftertaste. perfectly drinkable.

33cl bottle. Pours a beautiful opaque dark-coffee colour, with a lovely head. The nose is really interesting - some coffee, some root vegetable, then creaminess in the background. The taste delivers the same again and for me the chilli is really just mild pimento/bell pepper. The palate has a powerful but elegant structure, like a good French wine it starts gently and builds through the middle section and then falls away delicately. Overall, I love this! It’s nearly as good as their 7.9% Scotch Ale.

Bottle from Appellation Wines. Dark brown colour, reasonable head. Sweet spicy chilli aroma. Spicy chilli flavour. smooth with sweet aftertaste. Interesting but not great.
