Pours deep ruby colour with a thin off-white head, which disappears rapidly. Aroma is faint coffee. Taste is sweet, with the coffee flavour hitting the back of the throat, and some dark fruit (raisin?). Texture is oily with a medium carbonation on the tongue. Pretty average beer to be honest, not awful but I can’t get too excited about it.

Bottle (500ml $7.50) Dark brown with 1 finger head. Taste was more roasted malts than I expected. Only slightly sweet with some bitterness in the end. Very good, but seemed like a cross between a Scotch Ale and a Stout. Seemed light to medium body.

(bottle, 33cl, Black Isle Organic Scotch Ale, 6.2% abv) Clear, brown colour with a firm, mid-sized and tanned foamy head. Dark-malty and slightly vinous fruity (berries, plums) aroma with notes of liquorice, caramel and a tinge of candy. Moderately sweet and delicately bitter flavour, medium bodied with a soft carbonation. Delicately roasted malty aroma with notes of caramel, liquorice and mildly alcohol-soaked fruits; sweet and slightly bitter dark malty and punch-fruity finish. 08.VIII.13
