omhper (15956) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - APR 25, 2012
Draught at Bishop’s Arms Folkungagatan, Stockholm. Clear mahogany colour, small head. Resinous grapefruity hops covers a solid, sticky, malty body with deep layers of caramel. Mild warming alcohol stays in the background. Long resiny bitterness. An intense rainy days beer.

Bottle 332 from utobeer. It pours very dark brown, decent beige head. The nose is caramel, raisin, prune, plum, coffee/roasted malt and some beef jerky. The taste is roasted malt, coffee, plum, prune, blackcurrant, cherry, bubble-gum, some meatiness, varnish, charcoal, with a dry-roasted finish. Medium-full body and moderate carbonation. Well balanced and flavoursome. Great stuff.

#1 issue bottle! Black-red, creamy tan head. Lovely aromas of sticky toffee, caramel, beautiful. Rich, christmas pudding flavours, delicious toffee and caramel again, with a slight dairy edge and even a little bitter coffee edge (though very subtle). Really nice, thick-but-not-too-thick mouthfeel. Good stuff.

Dart ruby body. Thin tan head. Prickly carbonation. Decent hop swell lasted to the finish with a comforting milky malt linger on the palate. Impressively hungry finish for such a high ABV. (Keg, Nobles, Black Isle Night)

330ml bottle 337 of 1481. Aroma: treacle, black cherries, slight alcohol. Pours dark brown, long soapy off-white head. Taste: Cherry notes, treacle, marmite(!), dark plain chocolate. Palate: Smooth, easy. Soft ’cloudy’ feel, gentle, slightly rubbery - in a nice way. Good smooth finish with a mild bitter burnt wood kick around the back of the tongue. Overall: Easy drinkability when you consider the abv. Easily the best offering from Black Isle.

Dark brown.Dry and spicy, hint of rum, hedgerow fruits, treacle, liquorice. At first quite dry and fruity, wood, sultanas, tobacco, leather, smoke, molasses and kola in the long finish. Quite sticky but also prickly carbonation. Its pretty challenging but enjoyable.

#63 of 1481 bottles but according to sources there were actually fewer than half that actually made. Nice retro label introduces a deep dark brown beer with reddy highlights. Superly tight but rich, bitter firm and fortunately not at all sappy. Amazingly restrained and ends with some lovely dark choclate. A grown up sweetness is tightly balanced by a thick lingering after taste. Very well made. Could esasily go toe to toe with SKellsplitter in the Octagon.
